  • Overview / Responsibilities

    Wood is seeking a Principal Process Engineer with extensive experience in the oil and gas refining and petrochemical industry. Specifically, we are looking for a “doer/seller”, a Principal Process Engineer with substantial experience in Linear Programming (LP) and Refinery Planning, using Aspen PIMS Linear Programming software. The incumbent will play a key role in growing and developing this line of business within our Process and Technology group (PTaC). He/she will report to the Director of Consultancy,PTaC, based out of our Houston TX office.

    PTaC are Wood's specialist in-house consultancy that focus on advising clients, investors and asset owners on making the right investment decisions for their projects. This is a great opportunity to work alongside a very strong team, with the skills, experience, and creativity to add value from the earliest screening or conceptual phases through to the establishment of a robust basis of design in the pre-FEED stage, ready for FEED.

    Responsibilities

    • Execute and provide technical support to projects within Wood's PTaC Group
    • Involved in conceptual and feasibility studies, optimisation work, and pre-FEED stages, including techno-economic analysis and licensors selection on refining and petrochemical processes
    • Work closely with customers to understand their needs and produce designs and services to meet these needs
    • Be flexible, supporting several studies at the same time without missing milestones
    • Coach and mentor less experienced staff
    • Identify issues and propose solutions using innovative and novel solutions, plus ability to grasp unfamiliar concepts
    • Complete technical design work to a high standard without supervision using Wood's and Client design methods, standards and data
    • Identifies deficiencies and improvement changes to established Wood’s design methods, standards and data

    Skills / Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering required; post-graduate degree is highly desired
    • Minimum of between 15-20 years relevant experience at a senior level
    • Expert level using Aspen PIMS Linear programming (LP) and potentially other LP modelling software + industry-wide process simulation software
    • Up-to-date technical expertise and an extensive record of project execution in the field
    • Previous experience with a range of different Refining and / or Petrochemical technologies is required
    • Experienced in the execution of conceptual studies, optimisation work and front-end engineering design stage of projects
    • Excellent analytical and conceptual thinking skills, ability to manage own work and the work of others, plus a strong customer focus and team-working skills
    • Readily adaptable with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to analyse logical problems or problems with several obvious relationships, systematically break a complex task into more manageable parts and identify the critical components of a problem
    • Demonstrated success in establishing and developing solid client relationships
