  • Overview / Responsibilities

    Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions is seeking a Senior Associate Project Manager that is a registered mechanical engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a solid project management background in HVAC design, energy efficiency, have leadership experience, excellent communication skills, and ability to work with a group of experienced professionals.

     

    As a project manager, you will be responsible for managing both design and construction administration of small to large HVAC projects. He/She is responsible for managing planning, assessments/feasibility studies, all design phases, deliverable schedules, coordination, and control of a HVAC project from its inception through construction. He/She is responsible for ensuring that the client’s requirements regarding the functionality and standards are met. He/She is also responsible for ensuring that that a project is managed and concluded successfully. A professional engineer license is required. A Project Management Professional certification is desired. This position requires a minimum of 20 years of experience with a focus on HVAC equipment design and replacement for small to large facilities.

     

    Key Responsibilities

     

    • Strong commitment to company’s safety and quality programs
    • Manage/work on technical assignments and direct HVAC design and energy related projects
    • Develop and maintain client relationships is important
    • Managing scope, organization, budget, and schedule from simple one-for-one replacement to complex $1M+ HVAC projects with controls, VAVs, chillers, etc.
    • Manage multiple projects at one time
    • Coordinate and work with multi-disciplined engineering staff throughout the U.S.
    • Plan, direct, and coordinate HVAC studies and designs. Typical team assignments will include HVAC retrofit projects, interfacing with clients and contractors, project cost estimation, energy auditing of large HVAC systems and controls, identification of energy conservation measures, boiler and chiller plant upgrades, DDC systems and building stimulation energy modeling
    • Ensure projects are completed within schedule and budget; and develop contingency strategy if schedule or budget are not being met
    • Ensure projects are completed within established Design Standards
    • Generate proposals, resource agreements, and change order requests
    • Ensure that all safety is adhered to on all projects
    • Some overnight travel required

    Skills / Qualifications

    • B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering
    • 15+ years of related experience
    • Professional engineering (PE – Mechanical) license in any US State or Territory
    • Valid driver's license
    • Flexibility to work and travel outside normal business hours as required
    • Experience with building simulation modeling (preferably using Trane Trace or System Analyzer)
    • Background in design of HVAC systems and knowledge of HVAC systems to include but not limited to HVAC load calculations, equipment sizing and creation of construction drawings
    • Ability to apply Trane Trace 700 or similar, load calculations, energy use simulations, and life cycle cost analyses programs for various system applications including heating and cooling, and mechanical ventilation
    • Basic understanding of controls to support writing sequences of operation
    • Strong understanding of building and NFPA codes and ASHRAE standards
    • Construction or mechanical contractor background desirable
    • Existing local vendor relationships is desirable but not required
    • Desire for continuous learning and ability to learn quickly on the job
    • Must be computer proficient with working knowledge of MS Excel and Word (AutoCAD proficiency preferred not required)
    • Must pass drug test, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the company’s driving (MVR) policy
    • High receptivity to mentoring, learning, and sharing of work knowledge for the benefit of the team
