  • Overview / Responsibilities

    Wood Specialist Technical Solutions is currently seeking a Junior (entry level) Electrical & Instrumentation Engineer to support ongoing projects in our Baton Rouge, LA office.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Prepare detailed design drawings including:
      • Substation layouts (high voltage and medium voltage switchgear, power transformers, structures and buswork, grounding and instrument transformers)
      • Underground and overhead MV collector/distribution lines
      • Schematics (protection & control, DC elementary, etc.)
      • Auxiliary systems layouts (equipment, cabling, cable tray, grounding, lighting, etc.)
      • Single and three line diagrams
      • Interconnection wiring diagrams (equipment and panel wiring)
      • Communication block diagrams
      • Security and fire alarm systems details
    • Prepare calculations for sizing/selection of commonly used power and control systems (lighting, cabling, batteries, chargers, etc.)
    • Prepare cable schedules, panel schedules, drawing lists, specifications, datasheets
    • Coordinate with other team members, vendors, clients
    • Technical writing (client reports, equipment specifications, construction specifications)
    • Problem solve design and site commissioning work

    Skills / Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
    • Intern or industry experience ion Automation an asset; applicants with less than 4 years experience preferred
    • Excellent communication (written and spoken) skills in English; bilingualism an asset
    • Demonstrated strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects
    • Strong desire to attain knowledge of construction methods and installation details related to electrical equipment and with codes and standards: NEC, NFPA 70E, IEEE, IEEE 1584
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently and cooperatively with others (with minimal supervision)
    • Willingness to learn, receive feedback and work with a variety of individuals.
