  • Overview / Responsibilities

    Wood’s Madison, Mississippi Environmental Branch is in search of an Environmental Permitting and Compliance Specialist with 1 to 5 years of experience. The ideal candidate will have experience with preparing permit applications for industrial and environmental permits associated with RCRA, Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act and other regulatory programs.  Environmental auditing experience is a plus.  Experience with NEPA projects is a plus.

     

    Key Responsibilities

     

    • Inspecting and evaluating industrial operations for environmental and safety regulatory compliance
    • Preparing Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans, Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure plans, Risk Management Plans, Process Safety Management Plans, air permit applications, waste water permit applications, etc. 
    • Working with a senior environmental and safety auditing compliance specialist on limited environmental and safety audits
    • Data entry and report writing
    • Assisting senior staff with the preparation of proposals and technical reports
    • Supporting various projects within Environmental Branch (e.g., Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, and soil and groundwater sampling)
    • Daytime travel and overnight (up to a week or more) travel required, as needed
    • Overtime required, as needed
    • Have and maintain a valid drivers license, work outdoors in various weather conditions and frequently lift up to 35 pounds

    Skills / Qualifications

    • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related discipline is required
    • 1 to 5 years of experience of related work experience
    • Current OSHA 40-Hr HAZWOPER training
    • Ability to apply analytical/scientific thinking to define and solve problems
    • Ability to execute field and office tasks and operate independently at times – specifically in field setting
    • Communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with management, staff, and clients
    • Proficient in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
    • Able to work as part of a team, under general supervision
    • Valid drivers license
    • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and frequently lift up to 35 pounds
    • Must pass drug test, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy
