  • Overview / Responsibilities

    Wood is currently recruiting for a Civil Engineer, Structural Vibration Analysis, to support our growing Vibration, Dynamics and Noise group. This role would be seated in Calgary, AB (preference) or in Houston, TX (alternate).


    The Civil Engineer will be responsible for skid, foundation and structural dynamic analysis for rotating machinery such as compressors and pumps. This is an opportunity to work in a global organization with an industry-leading position based on its niche range of services, and to be involved in projects both locally, and around the world.     • Verify design concepts.
    • Design tasks will mainly involve stress analysis, structural concrete and steel design using computational software design tools and hand calculations as appropriate.
    • Coordinate structural engineering with other engineering disciplines.
    • Prepare proposals and estimates.
    • Work in a team environment with other disciplines.
    • Operate within the company's Quality system and Safety Policy in all phases of assignments. 

    Skills / Qualifications

    • Civil/Structural Engineering Degree.
    • 4 – 6 years structural design experience with steel sections as applied to compressor packages and industrial steel structures.
    • Registered Professional Engineer in Alberta or elsewhere in Canada (alternate registered as Professional Engineer in Texas or elsewhere in US).
    • Knowledge of US and Canadian steel design codes a requirement, familiarity with other international codes desirable.
    • Good working knowledge of a structural design software essential.  Knowledge of SAP2000 an asset.
    • Basic understanding of the key contributors to the cost of concrete and structural steel fabrication and construction.
    • Experience in design of structures with seismic demand.
    • Experience in design of foundations for industrial structures and heavy equipment.
    • Knowledge of vibration analysis of concrete foundations and steel structures. Knowledge of DYNA6 an asset.
    • Strong technical writing skills using MS Office applications and good English verbal communication skills.
    • Experience in the oil and gas sector is an asset 
    • Current passport with eligibility to travel to our Calgary, Canada office for training as necessary for up to 6 week intervals.
