  • Overview / Responsibilities

    Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions is currently seeking a Construction Management/Demolition/Environmental Remediation/Construction Professional to join our Portland, Oregon team. The position is approximately 50 percent field work and 50 percent office work on a variety of projects primarily for our industrial/commercial clients.

     

    This position will perform a broad range of planning and execution tasks for demolition and remediation projects. Must have a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience with environmental remediation, regulated building material management and facility closure, decontamination/demolition. Thorough understanding of TSCA, RCRA, and OSHA regulations is required. Must have solid communication, plan writing, scheduling and cost report/tracking skills. Successful applicant will interact with professional staff, engineers, clients, regulators and contractors. Duties will include developing project plans and specifications, health and safety plans, progress reports, cost estimates, as well as oversight of a broad scope of field service.

     

    Key Responsibilities

     

    • Under senior supervision, assist with the development of project specifications and subcontractor solicitations for demolition and remediation work
    • Responsible for overall field safety of subcontractors and other onsite Wood personnel
    • Manage/oversee subcontractors during demolition and remediation projects
    • Review plans and specifications for constructability during design
    • Write, review, critique onsite Activity Hazard Analysis (AHA) or Job Hazard Analysis (JHA)
    • Perform routine, well-defined field and office assignments (technical and non-technical); receive detailed instructions on objectives, complex features, and possible solutions; receive close supervision and review of work; with experience, may be assigned some tasks with minimal supervision
    • Conduct pre-bid, preconstruction, progress, tool box safety meetings, and planning meetings
    • Write/edit project execution, work plans, HASP, SAP, and QAPP plans, interfacing with environmental professionals to gather information needed
    • Review and tracking payment applications, requests for information, change order requests and other project submittals
    • Prepare preliminary cost estimates for demolition and remediation projects
    • Conduct project closeout activities including final inspections, completion of punch lists, record drawings, and contract closeout
    • Maintain project field records so that final reports can be assembled quickly and efficiently
    • Complete daily, weekly and monthly summary reports
    • Develop and maintain project schedules
    • Learn and stay up-to-date on guidance, state and federal environmental/construction regulations, reviews, and methods relevant to demolition and remediation of contaminated sites
    • Maintain and develop vendor and other professional contacts
    • Participate in training events, project meetings, and construction/engineering team meetings
    • Complete operation and maintenance inspections of remediation systems under the supervision of an experienced operator
    • Will travel to project sites across North America - Approximately 50% overnight travel

    Skills / Qualifications

    Required

    • High School diploma or equivalent required; BS in Construction or Engineering a plus
    • Approximately 5-10 years of coordinator/site management-related experience for large scale asbestos abatement, environmental remediation, demolition and/or civil type projects
    • OSHA HAZWOPER 40 hr training in accordance with 29CFR1910.120
    • OSHA HAZWOPER Site Supervisor
    • OSHA 30 hr Construction Safety
    • Computer knowledge of MS Word, Excel
    • Understanding of means and methods associated with asbestos abatement, universal waste removal, demolition work, environmental remediation technologies, civil type work, CSI specifications, and construction drawings
    • Understanding of electrical, mechanical, plumbing and general building systems
    • Strong fundamental math skills
    • Maintains and advocates a safe working environment
    • Excellent communication, both verbal and written, and organizational abilities
    • Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours as required
    • Must pass drug test, entrance physical, and background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy

    Preferred

    • Certified Safety Professional a plus but not required
    • Three client references from large asbestos abatement, demolition or remediation projects

    Physical Demands

     

    • Walking and working outside in inclement weather conditions, uneven terrain and inside closed manufacturing facilities which may be dimly lit and in various states of disrepair
    • Working at heights
    • Travel within United States up to 6 months at a time
