  • Overview / Responsibilities

    Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions is seeking experienced Construction Quality Assurance Technicians to work on our coal combustion residual (CCR) projects throughout the US. Position would include quality assurance or quality control oversight of projects related to coal combustion residuals (CCR) ash ponds, landfills and solid waste facilities.


    Job Location: Birmingham, AL (or other Wood office locations in Alabama) 


    Key Responsibilities


    • Under general supervision, perform field inspections, observations of construction activities to ensure compliance with project plans, permits, approved shop / working drawings, project documents and specifications in accordance with established procedures
    • Read and interpret construction documents including, but not limited to, drawings, specifications, standards, codes and shop drawings
    • Prepare and submit accurate, legible, comprehensive and complete inspection reports and / or testing records daily in accordance with established quality procedures
    • Perform analysis of data to verify accuracy before communication and submittal to the Supervisor
    • Document, track and communicate construction non - conformance
    • Under general supervision and direction, interact with clients and other site personnel and provide input on appropriate resolution of issues and findings
    • Coordinate pre - dispatch activities with Project, Department, and / or Office Managers

    Skills / Qualifications


    • High School Diploma or equivalent required
    • Must have 5+ years’ experience with construction materials testing and inspection on landfills and / or surface impoundments
    • Must have relevant field - testing certifications (NICET, ACI, etc.) and experience with materials laboratory testing (i.e. soils and concrete)
    • Must have experience with the inspection of geosynthetics liner / cap installation for landfills and / or surface impoundments and successfully completed no less than five projects totaling not less than one million square feet of geosynthetic installation
    • Geosynthetics QA / QC training and certification (GSI GCI - ICP) is required
    • Must have fundamental working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat
    • Desire to provide excellent practical client service and a commitment to technical excellence
    • Excellent client service abilities and ability to meet deliverables on time and on budget
    • Must have effective communication skills (speaking and writing), using the English language
    • Must pass drug test, physical, background check and must have satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company’s driving MVR policy

    Physical Demands

    • Physical examination required to obtain medical clearance to work
    • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
    • Clean driving record and capable of being insured for driving company vehicles
    • Able to work in variable outside conditions, including extreme heat or cold
    • Ability to stoop, sit, stand, or be on their feet for extended periods of time
    • Willing to travel to remote areas for extended periods of time
