  • Overview / Responsibilities

    Wood’s Salt Lake City team is growing and we are seeking Construction Engineering Technicians to perform construction testing and inspections for transportation, commercial, mining and industrial, projects. We have opportunities for experienced technicians with ACI and other certifications. We also have opportunities for motivated individuals without construction testing or inspection experience looking to start a career.

    Key Responsibilities


    • Under immediate supervision, perform routine field sampling/testing and/or laboratory testing of soil, base, aggregate, Portland cement concrete, asphaltic concrete and masonry in accordance with established procedures and standard methods established by AASHTO, ASTM, UDOT or other agency with appropriate, properly calibrated testing equipment
    • Under immediate supervision, perform field inspections and observations of construction activities to ensure compliance with project plans, approved shop/working drawings, project documents and specifications in accordance with established procedures
    • Prepare and submit accurate, legible, comprehensive and complete testing and/or inspection reports on a daily basis in accordance with established quality procedures
    • Upon additional training, perform field tests on materials and completed work using standard methods established by AASHTO, ASTM, UDOT or other agency with appropriate, properly calibrated testing equipment
    • Perform analysis or calculations to check accuracy, applicability and reasonableness of testing data
    • Maintain assigned equipment and related calibration
    • Follow safety rules and practices and other safety requirements for all projects, perform pre-task planning prior to executing work, and report any safety issues or concerns to management

    Skills / Qualifications


    • High School Diploma or equivalent required
    • Valid Driver’s License required
    • Reliability – must be able to arrive at designated project sites prior to scheduled times
    • Ability to prepare reports and documentation
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Flexibility to work outside normal business hours as required
    • Must pass drug test, physical, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy

    Preferred, but not required

    • 1-2 years + Construction inspection and/or testing experience
    • Nuclear testing service training course
    • ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician - Grade 1
    • WAQTC certifications for soils, concrete and asphalt
    • Current MSHA Certification
    • Basic knowledge of MS Word and Excel

    Physical Demands

    • Physical examination required to obtain medical clearance to work
    • Ability to lift 60 lbs. and move 100 lbs.
    • Clean driving record and capable of being insured for driving company vehicles
    • Ability to work in variable outside conditions, including extreme heat or cold
