  • Overview / Responsibilities

    Wood Environmental & Infrastructure Solutions is seeking a Building Inspector to travel independently, or with a team, to various client sites to observe and document roofing components and conditions and prepare field observation reports. This position may serve as a team leader for one or more roof inspection teams, providing leadership and technical guidance. The technician shall meet various project administrative needs including, but not limited to, scheduling inspections, filling out daily reports, collection of data during observations and input of information into the project database. Being able to evaluate and solve unforeseen field conditions is an essential part of the role. This position demands a focused attention to safety and the ability to assess and safely work according to the existing conditions at each location visited.

    Position Summary

    • 7-10 years experience in the commercial roofing industry including performing inspections
    • Knowledge of various roof systems such as foam roofing systems, built-up roofs (BUR and Mod-Bit), single ply membranes (EPDM, PVC, TPO) and typical roofing details for each
    • Perform roof inspections to correctly inventory all components and assess conditions and remaining services life, including roofs having multiple sections of differing materials
    • Identify roofing deficiencies including location, density, quantity and severity
    • Documenting inspection results with clear and appropriately labeled photographs
    • Performing routine housekeeping of roof surfaces including roof drains and gutters
    • Good drafting skills and field note taking
    • Prepare accurate field reports and input data into the project database using a field table computer and web-based computer applications
    • Utilize strong communications skills to facilitate general coordination with project schedulers and owner’s representatives is required

    • Perform related duties as may be necessary to support the needs of the business
    • Perform standard administrative tasks, such as completing timesheets and expense reports as required

    Skills / Qualifications

    Education and Basic Qualifications Required

    • Bachelor’s degree or combination of technical education, PDH’s and certification plus 3 to 7 years of induction experience
    • Must be a U.S. Citizen and capable of passing a background check
    • Ability to pass a drug screening
    • Must possess and maintain a valid U.S. driver’s license
    • A commitment to Health, Safety & Environment through compliance with all policies and procedures and completion of all required training
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office program including Word, Excel and Outlook
    • Strong organizational skills
    • Technical ability to look at a drawing and understand discipline based content
    • Skill to perform various duties with a high degree of accuracy
    • Ability to work overtime as needed to meet critical deadlines
    • Willing to travel approximately 75% of the time either by driving and or flying on commercial airlines Overnight trips are required and may extend for several weeks at a time
    • Registered Roofing Observer certification or willingness to obtain is desirable
    • Proficiency with taking roofing core samples, including remedial patching
    • Proficiency with using thermographic imagining equipment to identify suspected areas of wet insulation is highly desirable

    Physical Job Requirements

    • Ability to stoop, kneel, climb ladders and lift 50 pounds
    • Ability to drive a large pick-up truck
    • Ability to use hands to operate field equipment
    • Ability to use fall protection equipment as required
    • Ability to operate a lift is desirable
