  • Overview / Responsibilities

    Wood is currently looking for a Lead Mechanical  Engineer to join our team at our Salt Lake City office and who will be supporting mining and metals, oil and gas, thermal treatment and heavy industrial projects. The position is responsible for managing all aspects of the mechanical and piping engineering discipline. This position interacts with all members of the project team, including the client and on-site construction contractors.

     

    Key Responsibilities

    The duties will be varied and include, but not limited to:

    • May serve as the lead mechanical engineer on a project; planning, managing and coordinating the mechanical engineering activities on technically complex portion of a project and/or serve in an individual contributor role as the mechanical expert completing broadly defined and/or technically complex engineering assignments
    • Develop, plan, evaluate and recommend solutions for difficult problems
    • Responsible for progress reports
    • Manage the activities of task assigned personnel
    • Coordinate the activities of a team of engineers assigned to a project and provide technical supervision of the day-to-day activities of task assigned (non-project-dedicated) personnel
    • Supervise and/or prepares proposals, discipline estimates, design deliverables including but not limited to calculations/lists/drawings, specifications and other engineering documentation using standards and/or new methods as required
    • Review and approves drawings, calculations, contract documents, specifications and other engineering documentation for compliance with contract requirements, good engineering practices, relevant codes, and standards
    • Coordinate work of subordinates with other disciplines and organizational project management team
    • Supervise the preparation or prepares technical specifications for purchased equipment
    • Coordinate and interface with vendors
    • Prepare technical evaluations of supplier’s proposals
    • Give effective presentations to customers
    • Work with and communicate with project management team
    • Investigate client and/or project management grievances at assigned project to determine facts and recommends a solution
    • Assure that all work on assigned projects is timely, accurate and high quality
    • Perform other related duties as assigned by management
    • Organize, plans, and coordinate own work as well as the resources assigned on a specific project
    • Set expectations and monitor delegated activities for schedule and budget
    • Troubleshooting at operating mine and/or oil and gas plants
    • Pump and piping system calculations
    • Pipe stress analysis
    • Launder sizing
    • Material handling equipment sizing (including conveyors, bins, silos)
    • Preparation of equipment performance specifications
    • Equipment and valve schedules/lists
    • Develop technical reports
    • Oversee and check work of other mechanical engineers and designs
    • Travel for meetings, site visits, as required
    • Accept remote assignments, as required

    Skills / Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
    • Minimum 10 years’ of related engineering experience in an EPCM company is required for this position
    • 5 years of experience as a Lead Mechanical Engineer (preference will be given to those candidate with experience in Mineral Mining projects)
    • Knowledge and understanding of how the mechanical and piping engineering activities integrate into a complete project
    • Excellent written and oral skills
    • Ability to work and communicate effectively with customers and vendors
    • Ability to work with administrative supervision and effectively manage multiple and conflicting priorities
    • Understanding of the technical and commercial aspects of the organization’s projects and proposals
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications and specialized software packages used for mechanical and piping engineering and design
    • Knowledge of relevant industry codes such as ASME and API
    • Preference will be given to applicants with a Professional Engineering designation
    • Project Management experience in an engineering consulting environment is a plus.
    • Current legal eligibility to work in the United States of America
