    Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions has an opportunity for a Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) to oversee the radiation protection program at a project in the Toledo, OH area.

     

    While the project is in the Toledo, OH area, relocation to the area is not a requirement, although extensive travel to the project will be required.

    Key Responsibilities

     

    • Will plan, coordinate and lead a team supporting radiological remediation work
    • The Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) will implement the Radiation Protection Plan (RPP) for the project
    • Supervise and direct daily activities of Health Physics Technicians and ensure daily oversight and field safety inspections and tests required by the project technical specifications and applicable professional standards
    • Will ensure radiation safety procedures are complete and that technical and field radiation safety personnel necessary to execute project tasks are trained and qualified commensurate with assigned responsibilities
    • Ensure all project personnel are trained on radiation safety related topics commensurate with assigned duties and responsibilities
    • Will ensure that occupational radiation hazards and hazard controls are properly addressed in the design of new facilities or processes or modification of same (with emphasis on hazard elimination)
    • Ensure that radiation hazards and hazard controls are identified during work planning and development of integrated hazard analyses/controls for each task
    • Ensure that radiation safety equipment, tools and materials necessary for task execution are available, calibrated and tested as necessary
    • Ensure that personnel participation in the readiness demonstration prior to initial task execution work area inspections are performed prior to the start of work and periodically throughout task execution
    • Ensure that exposure monitoring is conducted and personnel are informed of results
    • Will ensure that radiation safety records are generated and retained as required by the RPP and program or performance issues are identified, corrected and communicated

    Skills / Qualifications

    • BS degree in Health Physics or related discipline
    • CHP (Certified Health Physicist) certification is highly desired
    • A minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in the development and/or management and implementation of radiation safety programs for Hazardous, Toxic, Radiological Waste (HTRW) cleanup, facility D&D or other projects, preferably involving beryllium and radionuclides
    • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in management or supervision of technical and field staff
    • A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in final status survey (FSS) plan development and/or implementation to address MARSSIM and respiratory protection
    • Working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local OSH regulations
    • Demonstrated completion of specialty training including, but not limited to: radiation safety instrumentation, air monitoring (occupational and effluent) shielding, internal and external dosimetry, non-destructive assay (gamma and alpha spectroscopy)
    • Self-started with strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Effective employee leadership and interpersonal relationship skills; Ability to plan, coordinate and lead a team
    • Demonstrated commitment to safety in the workplace
    • Demonstrated commitment to quality and technical excellence
    • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and Outlook
    • Ability and willingness to occasionally perform physically demanding work in outdoor environments and in potentially adverse weather conditions
    • Must pass drug test, physical, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy
