    Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions, Inc., A worldwide engineering and environmental consulting firm, is seeking a motivated candidate with strong communication skills and a can-do attitude for a Database Operator/Administrator and Programmer position in our growing Gainesville, FL office.


    Role Overview


    Candidates must be able to understand database design and development and how to construct and process queries.   Knowledge of Microsoft Access and SQL Server required. Knowledge of Oracle preferred.   In addition, the individual we are seeking should have background in developing front ends to databases using VBA or similar programming languages, or a willingness to learn over a short period after hire. The individual should have a thorough understanding of databases, especially the ability to write ad hoc queries and utilize SQL to develop reports and standardized queries in order to analyze data.   Work involves use of environmental data. The willingness to learn and understand the data beyond simple database design is also required.


    Key Responsibilities


    The scope includes assistance in performing routine and non-routine data retrieval and reporting utilizing both ad hoc and standardized queries for MS Access running against a SQL Server backend. Initially, the individual will help support the data entry by staff, maintenance and reporting of the database used to support the record keeping for the USEPA Chemical Speciation Network contract. Candidates must be meticulous and detail oriented and have the ability to read and write queries in SQL or using MS Access’ QBE grid to develop both ad hoc and standardized queries that will be utilized to maintain and track inventory, samples, and quality assurance aspects of the shipping component of this contract.   In addition, to the individual will help maintain an Access front end written in VBA. Over the longer term, the opportunity exists with this position to become trained as a Microsoft SQL Server DBA and/or Oracle DBA.

    Skills / Qualifications


    • BS in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Programming, or one of the natural sciences ( e.g., Environmental Science)


    • 1   to 3 years work experience working with databases and programming with VB and
    • VBA
    • Knowledge with writing/understanding SQL, SQL queries, SQL Server, MS Access QBE grid, and utilization of MS Access databases to track and maintain data required. Experience with Oracle databases is preferred


    • Detail oriented
    • General knowledge of environmental data (or willingness to learn)
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a technical team to accomplish contract requirements

    Physical Requirements

    • Must pass drug test, and MVR and background checks
    • Ability to lift objects up to 20 pounds without help from another employee
