  • Overview / Responsibilities

    Wood is seeking a Senior Designer/Control Specialist to join our dynamic team in Orlando, FL. The ideal candidate will have a background in HVAC design, energy efficiency, have leadership experience, good communication skills and ability to work with a group of experienced professionals.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Work on technical assignments (both field and office) and support BAS controls design and energy related projects
    • Field assignments are local, national and international depending on technical capabilities and desire to travel - Overnight travel is estimated to be about 20%
    • The individual in this position will work with a small team of engineers and be responsible for the final deliverables
    • Typical team assignments will include HVAC retrofit projects, interfacing with clients and contractors, energy auditing of large HVAC systems and controls, identification of energy conservation measures, boiler and chiller plant upgrades, project cost estimation, DDC systems and building stimulation energy modeling
    • Strong commitment to company’s safety program; follow company safety standards, site safety standards and maintain safe workplace practices

    Skills / Qualifications

    Technical Requirements

    • 15-30 years of related experience - Mechanical or controls contractor background desirable
    • In-depth experience with at least one BAS manufacturer’s product; Experience with multiple manufacturers’ products is preferred
    • Background in design of HVAC systems to include but not limited to the creation of construction drawings and technical specifications
    • Basic understanding of controls to support writing sequences of operation; Ability to program/code these sequences of operations in the BAS is preferred
    • In-depth understanding of controls hardware and wiring
    • Ability to provide rough order of magnitude (ROM) project costing for controls related work 

    Non-Technical Requirements

    • Valid driver's license
    • Flexibility to work and travel outside normal business hours as required
    • Existing local (Orlando) vendor relationships is desirable but not required
    • Must be computer proficient with working knowledge of MS Excel and Word (AutoCAD proficiency preferred not required)
    • Must pass drug test, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the company’s driving (MVR) policy
    • High receptivity to mentoring, learning and sharing of work knowledge for the benefit of the team
