    Wood has a long tradition delivering Transmission and Design projects globally to a wide and established client base. Due to recent growth we are expanding our resources through the South East of America to provide enhanced local support to our customers.  

     

    Wood currently have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Substation Engineer. Reporting to the Substation Engineering Manager, this position is located in our Orlando,FL office.     Key Responsibilities

     

    • Designing electrical substations of 12 to 500 kV
    • Developing one-line diagrams, general arrangements and sections for major substation equipment, bus work, HV structures, associated hardware, grounding, controls and metering
    • Designing station grounding grids, lightning protection, low voltage AC & DC systems and lighting layouts
    • Reviewing vendor documents against specifications and interfacing with vendors
    • Preparing material take-offs for all substation electrical equipment and hardware as well as ordering materials through the procurement group
    • Preparing and reviewing engineering documents, calculations, and specifications
    • Preparing and reviewing project scope(s), proposals, estimates, schedules, and budgets
    • Preparing and reviewing input to Request for Tender packages, such as scope of work, and participating in tender evaluation process
    • Providing construction and commissioning technical support, including staging and outage planning, field inspections and review and acceptance of commissioning test reports
    • Providing project engineering and electrical discipline leadership, including interdisciplinary coordination and scheduling
    • Monitoring budget and schedule for electrical scope of work and identifying scope and schedule changes in accordance with the Change Control Process
    • Enhancing and maintaining relationships with internal groups, external contractors and clients
    • Reviewing design documentation with the Owner’s Engineer to ensure the design satisfies the project’s requirements
    • Traveling and visiting client sites from project definition through construction
    • Leading projects from conception through construction and commissioning, including mentoring junior engineers and designers
    • Assigning tasks and providing technical assistance to assigned personnel, as required
    • Reviewing, checking and approving work output of assigned personnel, as required

    Skills / Qualifications

    • Electrical Engineering Degree from a recognized university along with a Professional Engineering Designation or the ability to register as a Professional Engineer
    • 7+ years of electrical engineering experience in a Transmission and Distribution Utility or EPC organization designing substations
    • Experience in both substation layout and Protection and control design
    • Familiarity with substation design standards including - ANSI/IEEE/NEMA
    • Proven field experience with outage planning, construction staging, and commissioning is considered an asset
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
