  • Overview / Responsibilities

    Wood is seeking a Construction Manager with 5+ years of environmental and/or construction management field experience performing project assignments to ensure that projects are completed safely, as per specification, within budget and on time. Standard project assignments include conducting complex engineering-related tasks, scientific assessment and analysis, and/or managing several concurrent tasks or projects. General responsibilities will include project scope development, analysis, technical review, report writing, and project management. The project will demand client interaction in technical presentations, meetings, and development of technical work products subject to both client review and regulatory agency approval. The role will support a number of currently active projects from initial studies through the final stages of remediation, with frequent interface with Wood project teams supporting the work from our Hamilton, NJ office or our Jersey City, NJ office. The individual must possess a strong work ethic and high degree of flexibility and patience to adjust to changing work priorities and schedules. 


    Key Responsibilities

    • Manage/supervise subcontractor(s) during Remedial Action construction projects including various environmental technologies (soil, water, and air handling/treatment/analysis).
    • Manage/supervise subcontractor/contractors during demolition activities
    • Manage/supervise subcontractor/contractors for civil/vertical construction projects
    • Perform routine, well-defined field and office assignments (technical and non-technical); execute detailed instructions on objectives, complex features, and possible solutions; initially work under close supervision and review of work. With experience, candidate may be assigned some tasks with minimal supervision
    • The position is full time field work on a variety of projects including industrial/commercial, municipal, and federal sites
    • Review plans, specifications and special provisions for soil/groundwater remediation systems, excavations, demolition, civil and vertical construction projects
    • Understand operation and maintenance activities
    • Tracking payment applications, requests for information, change order requests and general construction phase submittals, including Work Plans, Health and Safety Plans, and QA/QC Plans
    • Prepare conceptual & review construction estimates
    • Assist with subcontractor procurement by preparing bid documents and requests for proposals
    • Complete daily, weekly, and monthly construction reports
    • Develop and maintain project schedules (Master and three-week look-ahead)
    • Lead weekly project status calls between Wood, Subcontractor, and Client
    • Learn and stay up-to-date on guidance, state and federal environmental/construction regulations, reviews, and methods relevant to the management and remediation of contaminated sites.
    • Participate in training events, project meetings, and construction/engineering team meetings
    • Work and travel safely, meet and exceed company and site safety standards, maintain permits and training certificates

    Skills / Qualifications


    • B.S. degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Construction Management, or related degree
    • Approximately 5+ years construction management-related experience preferably in environmental remediation
    • Basic understanding of means and methods associated with environmental remediation technologies and ground water treatment systems, soil excavation, and demolition
    • Understanding of treatment system operation and maintenance activities
    • Basic understanding of electrical, mechanical, plumbing and general building systems
    • OSHA 40 Hr. HAZWOPER TRAINING and current annual refresher course required
    • Excellent communication, both verbal and written, and organizational abilities
    • Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours as required
    • Must pass drug test, entrance physical, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy


    • Computer knowledge of MS Word, Excel, ArcGIS, CADD, MS Project, etc.
    • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
    • Understanding of typical water treatment system, electrical control systems – Supervisory and Data Acquisition Systems

    Physical Demands

    • Work outside in inclement weather conditions, uneven terrain
    • Office/Field work with computer
