  • Overview / Responsibilities

    Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions (Wood) is seeking a Senior Geologist for the Portland, OR office. The position includes both office work and field work.


    The Wood Portland, OR office provides a broad range of services in engineering and earth and environmental sciences. Our Portland staff of approximately 55 engineers, geologist, scientists and support personnel specializes largely in soil, groundwater and sediment contamination assessment and remediation. We provide comprehensive support through all phases of assessment and remediation from preliminary screening through remedial investigation, feasibility study, remedial design, remedial action and construction oversight. In addition we provide storm water, hazardous materials, hazardous waste and other environmental compliance services, mold and indoor air quality assessments and other health/safety compliance services.


    Key Responsibilities

    • Direct and supervise technical assignments (both field and office) and manage entire projects or specific elements of projects
    • Direct a team and perform geologic/hydrogeologic interpretation of data at complex sites
    • Provide technical review for projects to comply with environmental laws, company standards, contract requirements and related specifications
    • Schedule, direct, and supervise field programs and subcontractors as needed
    • Perform business development and marketing activities as needed with Associate/Principal level staff to capture new clients for Wood
    • Prepare proposals and assist in preparation of large-scale proposals
    • Direct staff to perform calculations, direct and supervise junior staff to input data into and/or run standard or in some cases advanced computer programs
    • Recognize and identify discrepancies in results obtained in such assignments and follow-up with associate/principal personnel to resolve these situations
    • Responsible for preparing complete drafts of technical reports
    • Under supervision of the project manager or senior staff, represent Wood and interact in a professional manner with client and subcontractor representatives while on field assignments
    • May travel to project sites primarily in Oregon and Washington
    • Understands and applies company, client and site Health and Safety standards

    Skills / Qualifications

    • BS in Geology, Hydrogeology, or Engineering Geology is required, MS preferred
    • Professional Registration (OR RG and/or WA LG) required
    • 10 to 15 years of experience in environmental and regulatory compliance preferred
    • Qualified candidate should have experience with the following:
      • CERCLA, RCRA, OR and WA environmental regulations
      • Developing and managing complex remedial investigation projects
      • Developing and growing new client relationships
    • Strong work ethic and must be a self-starter with excellent written and verbal communication skills;
    • Strong computer skills and proficiency in MS Office
    • Demonstrated ability to work successfully as part of a team and achieve team objectives
    • Flexible to work outside normal business hours, as required; filed activities may require working in unfavorable weather condition or hazardous materials and in hazardous conditions
    • Must pass drug test, physical, background check and must have a valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company’s driving (Motor Vehicle Safety) policy
