  • Overview / Responsibilities

    Wood is currently seeking a Structural & Piping Designer for our Longmont, CO office. Drafter will work on multi-discipline project teams to provide computer-aided drafting expertise using SOLIDWORKS and AutoCAD. The successful candidate will work closely with engineers to create, update, and revise drawings of structural systems, and will visit project sites to gather information for project drawings. Project work will include drafting design of structural skids and supports, steel framing, access platforms, piping systems, industrial equipment, structural skids, and various details.


    Key Responsibilities:

    • Modeling, detailing, documenting and verifying mechanical, structural, subassemblies, process & instrumentation drawings, or complete assemblies.
    • Creating 3-D models, depicting relationship of component and parts; identifying dimensions, design requirements, tolerances and materials
    • Preparing Drawing Bills of Materials
    • Ensures quality of drawings and document control according to department standards
    • Makes various calculations and frequently uses charts and tables to accommodate the design process
    • Analyzing the effect of proposed changes for proper fit and/or interference problems
    • Recommending workable solutions or alternate construction and modifying drawings as required
    • Requires use of computers, proficient using 3-D CAD design; proficient using complete Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, etc.), proficient with email system, Microsoft Outlook preferred; strong creative ability to design and develop mechanical, structural, electrical, electronic equipment
    • Creating 3-D models, depicting relationship of component and parts; identifying dimensions, design requirements, tolerances and material

    Skills / Qualifications

    • Two-year technical certificate or experience/coursework directly related to the job responsibilities described above
    • Proficiency using current version of AutoCAD and/or SOLIDWORKS
    • Ability to read and interpret P&ID’s
    • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
    • Ability and willingness to work cooperatively with project team members in a high-energy working environment that encourages self-initiative
    • A flexible working style and willingness to modify personal schedules when required to meet deadlines and client needs
