  • Overview / Responsibilities

    Wood Automation and Controls is currently recruiting for a Business Development Manager. The successful candidate will have a strong engineering background in the automation and control space. This position will work with the senior personnel in the US and internationally to develop and implement the sales strategy to achieve success and growth in the industrial business sectors.

     U.S. Only: Authorization to work permanently in the U.S. without sponsorship required.

     

    • Sales:
      • Create the financial and technical documents for customer submission. With others deliver the technical presentation and commercial negotiations to secure the order
      • Develop and implement future sales strategy in conjunction with Senior Personnel in relation to sectors, key projects, services
      • To provide continuous field intelligence on projects, competitor activity, prices, equipment, etc.
      • Generate interest in our products and services from new customers
      • Ensure the timely and professional presentation of pre-qualification documentation
    • Customer Management:
      • Lead the relationship with the customers and end users providing confidence in our commercial and technical abilities. With other team members develop a viable technical and commercial solution
      • To establish and build key strategic long term relationships with customers, partners and suppliers
      • Understanding customer requirements, goals and supplier selection processes
    • Strategic Planning:
      • To identify suitable project targets in the sectors by continuous research and constant awareness in the market place
      • Advise engineering team on product strategy and engineering development, that would enable increased growth
    • Alignment with Sales Team:
      • Participate with all company sales leadership in developing and maintaining consistencies across sales both with respect to customer interaction and with respect to the company’s internal systems, processes and tools    
      • Enhancing sales processes in conjunction with the rest of the team and following up to make sure they are adhered to
    • Alignment with MAC Industrial Team:
      • Advising on commercial/design/project/resource, risks and issues or concerns during the bid and launch phases
      • Involvement in recruitment process for new team members
      • Responsibility for achieving the Industrial Group regional sales target, awareness of other company targets and expectations
      • Liaising and reporting to Industrial Group Vice President on a regular basis
      • Liaise with Project Management, Contracts and Purchasing personnel during project implementation
    • Compliance:
      • Maintain full compliance with the company’s code of business conduct. Maintain a safe working environment, ensuring compliance with all governmental regulations and corporate safety guidelines

      

     

     

     

    Skills / Qualifications

    Desired Experience & Skills

    • Proven expertise and a successful track record of consistent, annual sales growth
    • An ideal candidate would have a network of client contacts and key decision makers in the markets of interest of: Automotive, Material handling, Airport Baggage, Aerospace and Industrial customers
    • Expertise in sales processes and sales operations, including goal setting and sales forecasting
    • Must have an in-depth understanding of clients’ contracting philosophies, evaluation criteria, and decision making processes
    • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate pursuit and proposal teams for projects
    • Successful track record in developing sales leads and closing deals
    • Skilled in oral and written communication with demonstrated ability developing and delivering effective presentations to customers and management
    • A team player with the ability to generate enthusiasm and support in associates
    • Willing to travel in the US with limited trips to the United Kingdom
    • Understanding of automation platforms including PLCs, DCS/SIS, ICSS, SCADA
    • Able to leverage a virtual team spread across geographies to maximum extent to enable sales from initial start through order placement
    • All round familiarity with industrial automation, ideally with detailed experience of one or two aspects of the industry, such as hardware or software design or project management
    • Experience within the delivery team of large scale automotive solutions
    • Thorough technical understanding of the component parts required to configure large scale automation systems
    • An appreciation of the effort and delivery time scales of all core roles required to deliver a large scale automation system
    • Awareness of standard commercial and contractual terms
    • An appreciation of the commercial structures and contractual obligations
    • Previous experience of estimating
    • Commercially astute with financial appreciation
    • Professional, with a passion for quality
    • Positive and proactive, with a “Can do” approach
    • Self-driven and ambitious
    • Flexible and responsive to needs of impeccable customer service
    • Flexible and adaptable in relation to hours of work
    • 5 or more years of demonstrated ability to manage and coach sales engineers
    • Strong and well-practised negotiation skills
    • Demonstrable ability to develop and mature long term relationships

    Education

    • Bachelor of Science. in Engineering (or related technical discipline)
