We are seeking for a Mid-Level Environmental Engineer, Geologist or Environmental Scientist to join our Novi, MI team and are dedicated to providing the atmosphere to allow individuals to grow their careers. This position requires an individual with effective communication skills as significant client, agency, public and team interactions are expected.

     

    Key Responsibilities

     

    This person will be a member of a team providing a versatile range of environmental consulting services, such as due diligence, pre-demolition surveys, soil identification, soil and groundwater sampling, and demolition and remediation oversight, to government and private industry. This position will support a wide variety of environmental compliance projects. Some of the responsibilities of this position will include:

     

    • Conduct diligence projects, including Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments including field work and technical report preparation in accordance with ASTM E1527-13
    • Perform regulated material surveys to identify and quantify regulated materials such as universal waste, asbestos, lead-paint, and other regulated materials
    • Collect waste characterization and bulk asbestos samples for laboratory analysis
    • Adhere to site-specific health and safety plans and defined scopes of work to complete tasks safely, thoroughly, and accurately; prepares or assists in the development of work scope, schedule, budget to perform regulated material surveys (RMS)
    • Perform RMS, or hazardous building materials surveys (asbestos, lead-based paint, universal wastes, mold, etc.)
    • Assists in planning the execution of work including subcontractor procurement
    • Assists the Project Manager and team in ensuring effective client and regulatory agency communication and relations
    • Reviews subcontractor submittals including work plans, health & safety plans and quality control plans
    • Conducts oversight of subcontractors, including utility locators, abatement contractors, remediation contractors and decommissioning & demolition contractors
    • Evaluates compliance of subcontractor work against technical specifications and scopes of work
    • Performance and management of due diligence projects, including Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments
    • Technical review and mentoring of junior compliance staff
    • Willingness and ability to problem solve, adapt to site conditions, and develop solutions while in the field and office setting
    • Perform storm water inspections at construction sites to comply with permit requirements
    • Interface with regulatory agencies for permit development and compliance
    • Majority of travel will include project sites located in Michigan and the surrounding states

    Skills / Qualifications

    Required

     

    • BS degree in Environmental or Civil Engineering, Geology or Environmental Science or other, related technical field
    • 5 + years of experience in RMS and/or environmental regulatory compliance in Michigan or surrounding states
    • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER Training
    • Computer proficient (including Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
    • Strong technical writing skills
    • Demonstrated verbal communication and technical presentation skills
    • Team player and technical contributor
    • Able to define scope, schedule, and budget for project implementation
    • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team with the ability/desire to lead tasks
    • Attention to detail
    • Willingness to occasionally work greater than 8-hours per day
    • Ability to read, interpret and apply information on State and Federal technical guidance, and regulations, and compliance determinations
    • Must pass drug test, background check, and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy

    Preferred

     

    • Technical certifications and licenses, such as EIT or PE, CHMM, PMP, CPG, CEA, and/or Asbestos Building Inspector and Management Planner
    • MS degree in Environmental or Civil Engineering, Geology or Environmental Science or other related technical field
