  • Overview / Responsibilities

    Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions is seeking an Engineer-in-Training/Design Professional Civil Engineer with 2 to 4 years of experience to support civil engineering projects related to utility coordination and roadway design engineering.


    The individual will work with engineers to identify and resolve utility conflicts for transportation and transit projects. This includes assisting with coordinating with clients and utility owners to ensure utility relocation plans are compatible with the project as well as in compliance with applicable codes, regulations and rules, specifically TxDOT’s Utility Manual and Utility Accommodation Rules.


    Key Responsibilities


    • Assist with coordination for utility relocation designs on transportation projects
    • Identification, documentation and coordination of utilities
    • Notification to utility companies of projects and assist with coordinating the execution of utility relocation agreements or joint use acknowledgements
    • Review of utility relocation design and helps prepare preliminary cost estimates
    • Assist with developing relocation schedules and budgets for utility companies
    • Informing parties of project and design changes as instructed
    • Documenting and assist with coordinating any previously unknown utilities that are discovered during construction, assist with ensuring consideration and or relocation of the utility
    • Review utility permit applications
    • Coordinating with engineers, technical staff and CAD technicians
    • May prepare engineering design plan sets for transportation projects for TxDOT in addition to cities/counties

    Skills / Qualifications

    • BS and/or MS Civil Engineering
    • 2-4 years of utility engineering and/or roadway design or construction experience
    • A fundamental background in civil engineering is required for this position
    • Knowledge of TxDOT's Utility Accommodation Rules and TxDOT's Utility Manual
    • Education and/or experience with a focus on utility or roadway is preferred
    • Must have excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills
    • Knowledge of civil design software, MicroStation and Geopak is preferred
    • Must pass drug test, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy
