  • Overview / Responsibilities

    Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions is recruiting for a Senior Wetland Scientist to report to our St. Louis, Missouri office. This is a position which will appeal to individuals with a solid wetland biology or botany education, good work ethic, and genuine interest in career growth within a professional team of wetland scientists and terrestrial ecologists. The successful candidate will lead field efforts and manage projects in the infrastructure and power sectors. Work will be performed to support and maintain project / client compliance with environmental regulations such as Clean Water Act Section 404 permitting, the Endangered Species Act, and the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).

     

    Wood invites qualified applicants with a Bachelor’s degree or higher in the field of botany, wetland science, or an equivalent discipline with 8-15 years direct work experience to apply for the position.

     

    Key Responsibilities

     

    This role will manage fieldwork, direct client deliverables, and lead permitting efforts. Some travel is expected. This position will support on-going environmental planning and natural resources projects with the following key responsibilities:

    • Accurate and defensible wetland delineations following the various regional supplements of the USACE Wetland Delineation Manual
    • Implementation of botanical surveys following approved work scopes and guidelines
    • Preparation of wetland delineation reports, permit applications, mitigation plans, impact assessments, and pertinent sections of NEPA documents (EA / EIS)
    • Key client interface and agency coordination / consultation

    Skills / Qualifications

    • The successful candidate will have a BS degree in the field of botany, wetland science, or an equivalent discipline; MS degree preferred
    • 8-15 years of applicable experience performing wetland delineations and/or botanical surveys
    • Good taxonomic knowledge of Midwest native flora, especially wetland flora
    • Applicant will have excellent writing and communication skills. Must be prepared to provide a recent example of professional document (Wetland Report, EA, etc.) written by applicant
    • Certification as a Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) preferred
