Overview / Responsibilities

Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions is seeking a CAD Technician with a mechanical/piping background and the aptitude to learn process elements of process design to support engineering design in our Portland, Maine office. The Wood Portland, Maine Office is a multi-disciplinary science/engineering/architecture team of 150+ staff that offers the opportunity to work on technically challenging projects for a wide range of clients throughout the US.


Key Responsibilities


  • Work within multidiscipline design teams on wide variety of environmental and A/E projects
  • Support mechanical and process design for environmental and water/wastewater projects as a primary responsibility through preparation of design drawings including piping details, sections, 3D layouts, isometrics, and/or P&IDs
  • Support other mechanical and other disciplines with CAD as a secondary responsibility including potentially mechanical HVAC, civil 3D, structural, and/or electrical disciplines
  • Drawing production and engineering support of documents for local, state and federal permits
  • Interact with coworkers, project teams and coordination with remote offices
  • Conduct work in a professional and ethical manner
  • Implement varying client CAD standards

Skills / Qualifications

Basic/Required Qualifications


  • AA degree, technical diploma or vocational training and 5+ years of experience preferred
  • Fluent in the latest versions of AutoCAD
  • Knowledge of piping materials and systems
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and prepare construction drawings, understanding of technical specifications is value added
  • Ability to prepare design engineering drawings and manage digital files associated with CAD
  • Demonstrated project setup skills and familiarity with standard industry practices
  • Ability to work with and take direction from Architects, Engineers and Project Managers
  • Familiar with National CAD standards and implementing them on projects
  • Excellent communication, both verbal and written, and organizational abilities
  • Demonstrated consistency and attention to detail
  • Willingness to accept responsibility and additional support tasks
  • Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours if / as required
  • Must be a US citizen
  • Must pass drug test, physical, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy

Beneficial Qualifications


  • Experience with AutoCAD P&ID or Plant 3D
  • Experience with Revit and working knowledge of MicroStation
  • AutoCAD Civil3D knowledge and experience
  • Drafting / CAD knowledge of other disciplines is a plus, i.e. Architecture, Civil, Structural

Physical Demands


  • Majority of work is completed in office / administrative environment, may involve exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and / or a negligible amount of force frequently to move objects, including the human body
  • Close, distance, and peripheral vision and normal auditory function
