Overview / Responsibilities

Wood has an exciting opportunity seeking a Mechanical Construction Manager. The Mechanical Construction Manager will assist Field Employees with project coordination, execution, safety, and quality. 


Key Responsibilities


  • Assist the Construction Field Managers - CM’s will be the primary single point contacts
  • Focus on independent field audits with feedback to the CM’s
  • Responsible for auditing field safety via daily BOA’s and following up on any unsafe acts or outages
  • Work closely with the CM & Safety Manager to ensure safety requirements are known and communicated
  • Ensure proper permits are in place prior to work execution
  • Responsible to understand the scope of the projects with enough detail to monitor scope compliance, and contractor work performance
  • Conduct CM meeting to discuss site and general issues and align overall direction
  • Assist with coordination of other contractors and P&G to minimize/eliminate conflicts
  • Provide input to schedules, estimates, constructability and shutdown plans
  • Assist with monitoring all work installed for proper quality and conformance
  • Assist with the development of details on specific projects for RFQ packages. Understand the bidding process and the CM strategies
  • At project turnover, assist with follow-up of punch lists and wrap-up of close out issues. Assist with the creation of documented pre-existing conditions on projects
  • Review direction for next working week with each CM
  • Provide back-up support for CM’s during absences and coordinate with all interfaces
  • Assist with the verification of actual schedule progress in status meetings and with Scheduling / CM

Skills / Qualifications

  • Mechanical field installation experience within a power or heavy industrial environment
  • 10 years supervisory experience in power plant or with heavy industrial construction
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise 50 or more employees
  • Demonstrated planning and scheduling experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, reading & interpreting and working to:
    • Mechanical design drawings (isometric and orthographic), design guides, specifications
    • Mechanical Support Drawings and specifications
    • Contract documents and site coordination of subcontractors
  • Four to five years previous experience as a General Foreman or 3 Years as a Superintendent in a single discipline on an industrial construction project. Previous knowledge of man hour reports, job cost reports, workface planning and estimating is required
  • Minimum of 8 years supervisory experience in; similar facility construction technology, methods, equipment, tools and work procedures required
  • Advanced understanding of construction scheduling, cost control and ability to control and supervise large groups

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to read and comprehend complex instructions, correspondence and memos
  • Ability to write simple correspondence
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization

Reasoning Ability


  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete and abstract variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
