Overview / Responsibilities

Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions is searching for a Geologist or Environmental Scientist to support environmental compliance, investigation and restoration projects in the St. Louis office to join our Capital Projects Group team in St. Louis, MO. We are looking for self-motivated candidates who are able to work as part of a dynamic project team; think clearly; has good technical and writing skills; and is knowledgeable with Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (Illinois EPA) Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) and Tiered Approach to Corrective Action Objectives (TACO) programs.  


Key Responsibilities


  • Under direct supervision of the project manager or senior staff, represent Wood and interact in a professional manner with Wood personnel, and client and subcontractor representatives while on assignment
  • Field activities may include, but not be limited to, soil boring logging, groundwater monitoring well installations, collecting soil, groundwater, vapor, air, and sediment samples, subcontractor oversight during assessment and remediation activities including drilling, excavations, pilot studies and system installation
  • Office activities may include, but not be limited to, analysis and interpretation of hydrogeologic data, soil and water analytical results and preparation of reports
  • Prepare tables and figures using analytical data and topographic/site maps
  • Perform statistical analysis of data and work with Excel spreadsheets
  • Working knowledge of Access and / or AutoCAD and / or GIS and gINT
  • Develop alternative TACO remediation objectives for soil, groundwater, and other applicable media
  • Research scientific literature/regulations, prepare permit applications/regulatory compliance reports
  • Follow Wood/client safety standards, and prepare site-specific Health and Safety Plans/Job Hazard Analyses
  • Plan and coordinate project with staff and subcontractors (such as analytical laboratories and drillers) ensure compliance to all task procedures and policies while performing office assignments
  • Participate in work plan preparation (work scope, task-level budgeting, cost estimates)
  • Manage field communication, scheduled with PM and project team members
  • Assist with procurement of subcontractors and materials
  • Ability to work on many projects at one time, and multi-task

Skills / Qualifications

  • B.S. in Geology, Hydrogeology or Environment Science (ASBOG/IL Professional Licensing preferred)
  • Must be a self-starter with excellent written and verbal communication skills, but also be a team player
  • 8+ years of solid field experience (soil borings, well installations, multi-media sampling)
  • 6+ years report preparation with good technical writing skills
  • Knowledge of/experience in application of RCRA/TACO environmental regulations is a plus
  • Good data management and general organizational skills
  • Strong computer skills for database work and proficiency in MS Office
  • Flexible to work outside normal business hours as required
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER training completed with subsequent annual refreshers
  • Hands on knowledge of the use of field equipment
  • Ability to communicate clearly with project manager, senior staff and contractors on work assignments
  • Valid driver's license, operate pickup truck and/or other motor vehicle(s), and travel to project sites
  • Must pass drug screening, background check and physical exam

Physical Demands


  • Ability to stoop, kneel, climb and lift up to 50 pounds, use hands to operate field equipment, and wear a respirator as required
  • Work at remote sites around construction equipment, drill rigs and environmental contamination; be subject to periods of extreme heat/cold and other environmental conditions such as wind and humidity
