Job Description

Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently seeking a Technical Professional 3 Engineer. Incumbent performs moderately complex technical tasks within a broad workscope, and/or plans, schedules, conducts and coordinates project work for large workscopes. Ability to perform work independently that may involve complex features, such as engineering design or data interpretation and evaluation. Tasks performed are non-routine and require professional judgment and experience. Provides technical supervision to subordinate staff; may have client management responsibilities; responsible for managing deliverables through development, review, and submittal.


Key Responsibilities

  • Works directly with senior-level personnel in interpreting the actual needs of individual clients
  • Determines required scope and level of effort of project work, including the degree of completeness and precision to which project elements should be addressed
  • Coordinates site activities with contractors, subcontractors, agency personnel and client representatives
  • Exercises independent professional judgment not subject to close review
  • Maintains a high level of communications skill, with emphasis on the preparation of clear and concise written reports
  • Demonstrates a high level of competence in directing and managing large single-disciplined projects and/or small to moderate sized multi-disciplined projects
  • Provides technical direction to and mentors subordinate staff
  • Responsible for ensuring the Firm’s administrative and financial policies and procedures as well as the methods and procedures specific to his/her specific discipline are followed
  • Represents AMEC and interacts in a professional manner with client and subcontractor representatives while on field assignments
  • Understands, applies and oversees safety requirements in the field

Skills / Qualifications

  • Typically 4 - 8 years of related work experience required
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Engineering (Civil, Chemical, or Environmental) required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
  • Formal project management training desirable; certified as AMEC PM if managing projects
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with contractors required
  • Ability to communicate clearly with on-site contractors, supervisor or Project Manager regarding work assignments required
  • Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record
  • Must pass 40 Hour HAZWOPER Training and annual refresher course within, if required
  • Ability to pursue certification/registration in Civil Engineering in California, required
  • Field tools and equipment
  • Pickup truck and/or other motor vehicle(s); some locations require individual to have their own vehicle
  • Office equipment such as photocopy machine and fax machine
  • Personal computer and desk top software (e.g., MSOffice)

Physical Demands

  • Ability to stoop, kneel, climb and lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to drive large pick-up truck; ability to drive a trailer helpful
  • Ability to use hands to operate field equipment
  • Close, distance, and peripheral vision; normal auditory function
  • Must complete employment physical demonstrating ability to meet job requirements, including the ability to wear a respirator, as required
  • Completion of annual or bi-annual employment physical, as required

Work Environment

  • May require work at remote sites around construction equipment, drilling rigs, explosives and environmental contamination
  • Overtime and overnight stays may be required
  • Some fieldwork may require working with hazardous materials and in hazardous conditions
  • May be subject to periods of extreme heat and cold and other environmental conditions such as wind as humidity
  • Will be required to follow all applicable health and safety procedures associated with work environment


  • May travel frequently to project sites, including sites remote from the office, as part of on-site team
