Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently seeking a Process Engineer for our Seattle office. The position prepares design calculations, computerized analyses, specifications, and / or performs other engineering tasks using prescribed methods and procedures. Independently evaluates, selects and applies standard engineering techniques and methods to assignments with few unusual or complex features.  Uses judgment to make minor adaptations and modifications. May serve as the lead engineer on a small project without technical complexity and may review the work of less experienced engineers.  Recognizes problems, discrepancies and areas of technical complexity and requests help when needed. Assignments have clearly defined objectives and expected outcomes. Receives instructions on performance of assignment, objectives and complex features. A more experienced engineer provides assistance and reviews unusual aspects of work for sound judgment and proper application of methods. 


Key Responsibilities

  • Applies conventional methods to problems with few unusual or complex features.  Assignments may include equipment design and / or specification, requisition computerized analysis and preparation of calculations
  • Takes field assignments. Work requires application of engineering knowledge and experience in areas of assignment
  • Coordinates work with other engineers.  May be assisted by other engineers.
  • Prepares design calculations following prescribed methods, procedures and software.  Prepares and issues contract information (CI) sheets and / or BEDD Sheets based on calculations
  • Reviews drawings for compliance with CI and BEDD sheet requirements
  • Prepares technical specifications for purchased equipment
  • Coordinates and interfaces with equipment suppliers
  • Prepares technical evaluations of supplier’s proposals
  • Works effectively and communicates with customers, other technical disciplines, and the organization’s project management team


Essential Job Functions

  • Provides training and assistance to less experienced engineers
  • May serve as the lead engineer on small, technically simple projects
  • Suggests product design and work process improvements, when necessary
  • Reviews work of less experienced engineers
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management

Skills / Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of experience; or advanced degree with equivalent level of experience. Possess well-developed knowledge of engineering principles and practices. Working knowledge of the organization’s technology in general and comprehensive knowledge of (discipline) design methods and practices in particular. A PE license is recommended
  • Excellent written and oral skills
  • Prioritizes and plans work activities; plans for additional resources
  • Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner
  • Monitors own work to ensure quality while looking for ways to improve and promote quality
  • Able to work cooperatively within the organization, with vendors, and with customers
  • Able to perform routine work with minimal supervision

Physical Demands

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, sit and walk and may require close vision work.  Travel may be required
