Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is seeking a Process Technology Specialist to join our team in Houston, TX.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a lead over a group of Engineers or functions as a technical specialist developing applications, hypothesis, approaches and concepts which require extensive interpretation, judgment and ingenuity
  • Oversee a team of process engineers in the execution of process work on a large project or multiple small projects
  • Apply process knowledge and experience to assignments where issues and factors to be considered may be characterized by unusual demands and requires additional analysis to determine the nature and scope of the problem
  • Develop work plans and project schedules and assist in developing hours estimates and scoping efforts for proposals and projects
  • Expected to develop, evaluate and recommend solutions for broadly defined problems performing work and making decisions independently

Skills / Qualifications

  • BS in Chemical Engineering is required with certain positions available for BS in Petroleum Engineering; Masters or PhD in Chemical Engineering is preferred
  • PE (Professional Engineer) license preferred
  • 10+ years of experience in practice of Process Design
  • Must have Supervisory experience with managing Chemical projects and development of process design packages deliverables such as simulation modeling, equipment datasheets, P&ID development, relief valve calculations

  • Recognized as a technical expert in the process discipline
  • Demonstrates general knowledge regarding work of other engineering disciplines
  • Working knowledge of alternative, advanced principles and techniques of process engineering
  • Advanced knowledge of competing and alternative design techniques
  • Solid awareness of trends and economic conditions affecting the technical field and understanding of economic factors affecting the business (i.e. costs, margins, profit impact of decisions made)
  • Demonstrated ability to apply advanced laws, principles, theorems and mathematics or industry knowledge in the improvement and development of designs
  • Demonstrated skills in persuasion, negotiation, motivation and communication
  • Demonstrates proficiency in mentoring and project planning
  • Ability to assist in developing engineering work processes and procedures
  • Assists and makes recommendations in product design and work process improvements
  • Consistently demonstrates creativity and innovation in finding solutions and alternatives
  • Ability to execute and oversee assigned project scope, budget and schedule by prioritizing work activities and managing Process project staff
  • Process Lead experience including process improvement successes, managerial accounting, budget preparation and cost control responsibility
  • Advanced computer skills with MS Office programs and familiarity with process simulation software (Hysys, PROII, or equivalent)
  • Demonstrates proficiency in change management, progress management, interface management and first level of technical assurance
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for inter-departmental and external company interaction
  • Effective internal and customer presentation skills and technical publication skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment and willingness to assume additional or new responsibilities readily
  • Works effectively with project team to provide assistance to Customers, other Engineering Disciplines, Equipment Suppliers and Commercial Group regarding process related information.
  • Listens to others, learns, and asks questions or seeks technical assistance when necessary only on extremely unusual or complex problems
  • Ability to maintain regular attendance as per work schedule agreed with manager (may require working an adjusted work schedule based on project assigned and work overtime if warranted)
  • Assists in development of adequate training program and ensures development of less experienced engineers
  • Assists on ensuring the process calculations and deliverables are properly filed in the project and process filing systems
  • Prepares or supervises the preparation of proposal and contract design calculations, drawings and other engineering documentation using organizational standards, practices and codes
  • Prepares or supervises the preparation of technical evaluations of Licensor or Vendor proposals
  • Leads effective technical presentations and discussions with Customers, Vendors and internally within the organization when appropriate. Effective technical publication skills

Work Environment

  • Typically spends 90% of time in an office environment
  • Travel may be required, both domestic and international for technical meetings/conferences, project meetings and/or visits to site, client’s office, production facility or industrial area
  • When visiting client’s facilities, there may be environmental exposures including noise, fumes, outdoor or extreme weather conditions

Physical Demands

  • While performing the duties of this job, is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear
  • Is occasionally required to stand, walk and stoop, kneel, or crouch
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus
  • May need to drive, walk, climb stairs or ladders, and wear personal protective equipment (hard hat, protective foot gear, eye protection, other site-specific equipment)
