  • Overview / Responsibilities

    Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions is currently seeking an Entry to Mid-Level Geotechnical Engineer to join our team in Birmingham, Alabama. Candidate will be exposed to a range of projects related to energy, transportation, industrial/commercial, and government sectors. The successful candidate should be flexible in assignments, willing to travel, and eager to learn.

     

    Key Responsibilities

    Responsibilities will depend on level of experience, but may include:

    • Assist with project scoping, budget estimates, and proposal writing
    • Perform geotechnical field explorations, including data collection, sample logging, preparation of field reports, and coordination and supervision of subcontractors or other Wood personnel
    • Perform construction monitoring/inspection of shallow and deep foundations
    • Interpret field and laboratory data
    • Perform engineering calculations/analyses for shallow and deep foundations, settlement, soil and rock slope stability, retaining walls, ground improvement, etc.
    • Work with senior engineers to develop recommendations and prepare some or all of draft engineering reports for review by more senior engineers
    • Follow company and client safety standards

    Skills / Qualifications

    • Minimum of Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an ABET Accredited College/University, with a Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering or equivalent additional course work and experience preferred
    • 0 to 5 years of related experience
    • E.I.T. or P.E. license preferred
    • Must have strong oral and written communication skills and ability to work well in teams
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office (required).   Prefer proficiency with AutoCAD, ArcGIS, and analysis software (e.g., SEEP/W, SLOPE/W, Slide, Settle3D)
    • Flexibility to work outside normal business hours as required
    • Flexibility to travel for short durations (typically two weeks or less)
    • Valid Driver's License
    • Able to lift up to 50 pounds and traverse over rugged terrain
    • Pass drug test and background check, and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy
