Job Description

Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is seeking a Quantity Surveyor to be responsible for managing the costs, estimating changes, and ensuring the construction project is completed within its projected budget and schedule. The position is part of the overall project controls strategy of validating both contractors’ invoice claims and progress across the entire worksite.


Key Responsibilities

  • Create and implement an efficient procedure for measuring and tracking quantities
  • Create and implement quantity database; input findings into database
  • Price and forecast the quantity and cost of the different materials requested by the contractors and needed for the project
  • Prepare bills of quantities and other documentation to support change management, tender documents, service agreements, etc.
  • Prepare variance analysis and other documentation to support studies
  • Track changes to the design and/or construction work and adjust budget projections accordingly
  • Measure and value installed quantities of other work done onsite
  • Provide certification of work completed and goods received for paying contractor’s invoices
  • Acts as a liaison among the site managers, project managers, and site engineers
  • Writes and prepares reports of findings from sampling, quantities installed, and any other required information
  • Resolves variances in progress with contractor when needed
  • Determines critical work in each area and conducts sampling to certify contractors’ claims of payment
  • Maintains highest standards of safety and housekeeping according to established guidelines
  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned
  • In the performance of their respective tasks and duties, all employees are expected to conform to the following:

Skills / Qualifications


  • Technical degree in Civil Engineering or Construction management required
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred


  • 3 to 5 years of Quantity Surveying experience required


  • Knowledge and understanding of the complete construction cycle
  • Knowledge of cost of raw materials
  • Knowledge of labor and installation costs
