Job Description

Overview / Responsibilities

Wood’s Providence office is seeking a motivated, Mid-level Civil Engineer with land development engineering experience to support projects involving site civil design, including stormwater management, layout, grading, drainage, and utility design. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, and expertise in AutoCAD Civil 3D, utilities design, state and local permitting processes, and stormwater management systems that comply with all Rhode Island environmental rules and regulations. Wood offers the opportunity to work on technically challenging and innovative projects for a wide range of clients throughout the US.

 

Key Responsibilities

The position will involve all facets of site civil engineering including, but not limited to: hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, layout, grading, and utilities plan development, soil cut/fill volume calculations, due diligence studies and cost estimates, and construction oversight. This position offers the opportunity to work with a diverse team of engineers and scientists to address complex environmental challenges executing the following roles/responsibilities:

  • Develop Soil Erosion and Sedimentation Control Plans for land development projects
  • Prepare feasibility studies and final designs for stormwater BMPs for new and redevelopment (retrofit) projects
  • Develop existing conditions and proposed design plans for land development projects
  • Prepare technical specifications and design drawings
  • Prepare Technical Reports, including due diligence, project narratives, and stormwater management reports, for a wide range of land development projects
  • Assist in proposal preparation
  • Conduct construction administration activities, including performing construction inspections, reviewing contractor submittals, requests-for-information (RFIs), etc. and conducting closeout activities such as final inspections, completion of punch lists, and record drawings

Skills / Qualifications

Required

  • BS in Civil Engineering
  • Possess a Professional Engineering or Engineer-in-Training License (RI and/or MA preferred)  
  • 4-8 years of report writing, design, and construction experience with a focus on site civil engineering applications
  • Ability to work with and integrate multiple disciplines into civil engineering projects
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal skills. Strong organizational abilities
  • Strong technical skills in Microsoft Office products, AutoCAD Civil 3D, HydroCAD, and Autodesk Storm and Sanitary Analysis
  • Demonstrated professional judgment, consistency and attention to detail
  • Ability and willingness to travel to project sites
  • Adaptability and willingness to adjust to client needs
  • Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours if required
  • Must pass drug test, physical, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy

Preferred

  • Construction inspection/oversight experience
  • Experience in stormwater BMP design, including low impact development and green infrastructure stormwater management practices
  • Experience in environmental permitting, with emphasis on RIDEM regulations
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER Training
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team with the ability/desire to lead tasks
  • Attention to detail
  • Self-starter and fast learner   

Physical Demands

  • Field activities may require working in unfavorable weather conditions
  • May lift equipment and carry laboratory samples which require the ability to lift up to 40 pounds
