Job Description

Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is seeking a Carpenter to construct, erect, install, and repair structures and fixtures of wood, metal studs, and wallboard, using carpenter's hand tools and power tools. Work hours are typically M-F 8 to 10 hours per day per the needs of the project.


Key Responsibilities

  • Follow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean environment.
    • Clean work sites
  • Study specifications in blueprints, sketches, or building plans to prepare project layout and determine dimensions and materials required
    • Review blueprints or specifications to determine work requirements
  • Measure and mark cutting lines on materials, using a square, pencil, chalk, and marking gauge
    • Measure materials or objects for installation or assembly
    • Mark reference points on construction materials
  • Shape or cut materials to specified measurements, using hand tools, machines, or power saws
    • Cut wood components for installation
  • Install structures or fixtures, such as windows, frames, floorings, trim, formwork or hardware, using carpenters' hand or power tools
    • Install building fixtures
    • Install doors or windows
    • Install wooden structural components
  • Verify trueness of structure, using plumb bob and level
    • Verify alignment of structures or equipment
  • Select lumber or other required materials
    • Select construction materials
  • Coordinate with subcontractors to deal with special areas, such as heating or electrical wiring work
    • Coordinate construction project activities
  • Maintain records, document actions, and present written progress reports
  • Build or repair wooden structures to include formwork used in buildings, using woodworking machines, carpenter's hand tools, or power tools
    • Install wooden structural components
  • Erect scaffolding or ladders for assembling structures above ground level
    • Assemble temporary equipment or structures
  • Construct forms or chutes for pouring concrete
    • Assemble temporary equipment or structures
    • Build construction forms or molds
  • Fill cracks or other defects in plaster or plasterboard and sand patch, using patching plaster, trowel, and sanding tool
    • Apply material to fill gaps in surfaces

  • Ability to lift more than 35 pounds
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Willing to work outside trade to assist the project in maintaining production
