Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions is currently seeking a Construction Manager to join our Novi, Michigan team. The position is approximately 50 percent field work and 50 percent office work on a variety of projects for a wide range of industrial, commercial, federal, state and municipal clients.


Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for overall field safety including Wood personnel, contractors and other onsite personnel
  • Manage/oversee contractors utilizing various remedial technologies for soil, groundwater and sediment remediation, demolition, and other construction activities; Projects involve retainage systems (e.g., slurry walls, sheet walls), piping, electrical, PLC and HVAC installations, and general site civil work
  • Review plans and specifications for constructability during design
  • Manage contractors and Wood onsite personnel for compliance with project designs, specifications and contract requirements throughout construction
  • Monitor proper documentation of construction activities
  • Interface with Wood clients, government officials and other stakeholders
  • Understand operation and maintenance activities
  • Track payment applications, requests for information, change order requests and general construction phase submittals
  • Prepare conceptual construction cost estimates
  • Prepare bidding documents, requests for proposals and assist in contractor procurement
  • Review contractor submittals including equipment, Work Plans and QA/QC Plans
  • Conduct project closeout activities including final inspections, completion of punch lists, and record drawings
  • Review daily, weekly and monthly construction reports prepared by field staff
  • Develop and maintain project schedules (Master and three week look-ahead)
  • Maintain and develop vendor and other professional contacts
  • Participate in training events, project meetings, and construction/engineering team meetings
  • Work and travel safely, follow company and site safety standards
  • Maintain permits and training certificates
  • Work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Complete operation and maintenance inspections of systems
  • Travel to project sites primarily in the Mid-West but with some travel to the Mid-Atlantic region

Skills / Qualifications


  • B.S. degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Construction Management, or related degree
  • Approximately 10 -15 years construction management-related experience preferably in environmental remediation, demolition and/or civil type projects
  • Understanding of means and methods associated with environmental remediation technologies, demolition, civil type work, CSI specifications, and construction drawings
  • Understanding of electrical, mechanical, plumbing and general building systems
  • Strong fundamental math skills
  • Maintain and advocate a safe working environment
  • Excellent communication, both verbal and written, and organizational abilities
  • Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours
  • Must pass drug test, entrance physical, and background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy


  • Computer knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Project
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • OSHA HAZWOPER 40 hr training in accordance with 29CFR1910.120
  • OSHA HAZWOPER Site Supervisor
  • OSHA 10 or 30 hr Construction Safety

Physical Demands

  • Working outside in various, inclement weather conditions, uneven terrain
  • Office/Field work with computer
