Overview / Responsibilities

Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions has an exciting opportunity for a Construction Materials Testing Manager interested in playing a key role in expanding the capabilities and client base of our construction inspection and testing group in Louisville. We are seeking a leader with a background in private sector and governmental construction projects to manage the providing of construction materials testing and special inspection services. As the Department Manager, you will coordinate the efforts of other engineers, technicians, special inspectors, and sub-consultants to deliver results that ensure our goal of exceeding our clients' expectations on every project.


Key Responsibilities

  • Working with and managing a 20 person team of engineering technicians, engineers, and project managers
  • Authoring and/or reviewing technical reports and letters
  • Work with staff engineers, technicians and administration personnel to provide services; Satisfy multiple and unrelated deadlines
  • Participation in meeting the office's business development, marketing and proposal goals
  • Develop and maintain relationships with current and prospective clients
  • Identify and pursues new opportunities to grow construction inspection and material testing services
  • Assist in proposal and SQQ development leveraging project experience to win work
  • Supervise, coordinate, and train laboratory and field construction materials testing staff
  • Manage construction materials testing laboratory operations to ensure project deadlines and quality standards are met or exceeded
  • Check time records of technicians daily for accuracy and approves
  • Oversee routine maintenance of laboratory/field sampling/testing equipment as well as the calibration and proper documentation of all applicable equipment
  • Oversee the laboratory accreditation program and technician training and certification program to ensure necessary accreditations and personnel qualifications are maintained
  • Recommends equipment for procurement
  • Provide training and instructional guidance to material testing technicians
  • Provide continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality, seamless customer service

Skills / Qualifications

  • A minimum of five (5) years progressively responsible experience in field/laboratory testing with three (3) year experience in supervision
  • Marketing and business development experience is not required but highly preferred
  • Extensive knowledge of construction materials
  • Thorough knowledge of laboratory quality management system and laboratory records management techniques
  • Have a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management
  • Strong oral and written communication skills along with having the ability to work in a team environment
  • Flexibility to travel to construction sites for extended periods and work outside of normal business hours
  • Valid Kentucky driver's license
  • Must pass drug test, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy
