Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is seeking a Mid-Level Geotechnical Engineer to join our Salt Lake City, UT team. The successful candidate will be involved in a variety of civil / geotechnical engineering projects.


Key Responsibilities

  • Will work approximately 75% in the office and 25% in the field
  • Will assist in writing design and construction reports for projects
  • Geotechnical investigation, design and construction quality assurance of highway projects and mining projects such as tailings storage facilities, heap leach pads, foundations and other infrastructure
  • Travel may be required for this position and candidates must be prepared to undertake short-term field assignments. Typical travel time for this position is 10 to 25% a year
  • Design calculations such as slope stability evaluation and settlement
  • Assist preparing technical reports

Skills / Qualifications

  • BS degree in Civil Engineering (Geotechnical emphasis) or Geological Engineering; MS degree is a plus
  • 3 - 7 years’ professional experience in geotechnical engineering
  • Experience with design and construction of roadways and bridges is required
  • Experience with design and construction of heap leach facilities and tailings storage facilities is a plus
  • Strong academic background and solid understanding of soil mechanics and local Utah soils and geology
  • Civil 3D or Microstation experience is not required, but a plus
  • Report writing skills
  • Strong writing and communication skills in English
  • Ability and willingness to travel; Approximately 10 to 25% travel
  • Must pass drug test, physical, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy
