Job Description

Overview / Responsibilities

Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions is seeking a Health and Safety Manager to join our Environmental Construction team in Sacramento, CA. The Health and Safety Manager will support multiple projects to make sure that project teams understand and comply with Wood and client safety requirements as well as industry standard safety rules and regulations.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and set an example for project staff in regard to safety awareness and compliance
  • Maintain open communication with the Corporate Director of HSSE to support company HSSE objectives
  • Establish working relationships with operations and project HSSE specialists to ensure consistency in interpretation and implementation of Amec Foster Wheeler and Client HSSE processes across projects and offices
  • Prepare and/or review HSSE plans, procedures, risk assessments, permits, safety reports, and field-generated safety data
  • Conduct safety training sessions and orientation for project staff in the office and in the field
  • Monitor project activities for compliance with safety requirements and perform formal safety inspections/audits
  • Collect and/or evaluate worker exposure data and prescribe exposure prevention measures
  • Participate in external and internal presentations, HSSE conference calls and other safety-related communications
  • Develop HSSE reports and communications to disseminate incidents, lessons learned and best practices
  • Provide technical guidance for various HSSE issues
  • Assist with subcontractor prequalification by reviewing contractor safety program documentation and safety statistics
  • Manage Amec Foster Wheeler’s and Client’s HSSE Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Collect and report safety performance data and observations in accordance with Wood and Client systems
  • Provide HSSE guidance to project teams and seek ways to enhance the HSSE culture
  • Network with industry associations, companies, Safety professionals and regulatory bodies; Benchmark against industry and company standards
  • Promote positive site safety culture

Skills / Qualifications

  • Degree - safety, engineering, science, business, or other relevant field of study; or equivalent education and experience
  • 10 years of relevant experience as a safety professional responsible for implementing safety programs on environmental and/or construction projects
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER training completed with subsequent annual refreshers
  • Organization, planning and execution skills
  • Demonstrated success in influencing and motivating HSSE performance
  • Technical competence in industry practices
  • Presentation and training skills
  • Able to develop, implement and evaluate HSSE tools, processes, and systems
  • Statistical and analytical skills
  • Working knowledge of auditing processes and protocols
  • Ability to evaluate safety performance indicators

Physical Demands

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and sit
  • Occasionally the employee will be required to walk for 2-4 hours at a time and may be required to climb
  • Employee may be assigned to field project that require travel for extended periods of time
