Job Description

Overview / Responsibilities

Wood's Phoenix, AZ office is seeking a Traffic Designer candidate with advanced computer aided design (CAD) skills and meaningful experience in engineering and infrastructure design to support the Infrastructure Branch, primarily the Transportation practice group.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support transportation/traffic projects and clients with accurate drafting and design
  • Design or redesign complex layouts and drawings from general written or verbal specifications from project team
  • Create exhibits and documents for presentations and reports
  • Work with project team to investigate and resolve problems with existing designs and make corrections to drawings as requested by the senior staff
  • Adhere to discipline-specific CAD standards
  • Provides design, production and coordination of construction drawings in support of transportation/traffic engineering projects or tasks on multi-disciplinary projects
  • Work involves analytical ability to select and recommend design procedures, interpret complex ordinances and specifications, analyze design requirements and provide design solutions

Skills / Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent technical discipline plus five years of relevant experience


  • Associate's degree plus a minimum of 10 years of progressive drafting and design experience, including at least five as a Designer


  • HS diploma (or equivalent) plus a minimum of fifteen years progressive drafting and design experience, including at least eight as a Designer

Knowledge and Qualifications

  • Proficiency in CAD strongly desired, preferably using AutoCAD as design platform
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from project team members, including subject matter experts and project leadership
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
  • Mathematic skills, including basic understanding and use of basic algebra, geometry and trigonometry
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Proven ability to read and understand both 2D and 3D drawings
  • Ability to read, understand and interpret, contours, topographic mapping, and data generated by land surveyors
  • Must pass drug test, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy
