Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently seeking an Entry to Mid-Level Geotechnical Engineer. The successful candidate will provide civil and geotechnical engineering support to Wood's project managers responsible for delivering mining engineering projects to our clients.

We prefer that this position be located in our Denver, CO office. Depending on candidate’s preference, this position could also be located in our Reno or Elko, NV office.


Key Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will have a solid educational background in engineering fundamentals with an emphasis on geotechnical engineering, as well as excellent interpersonal skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills and will be a proactive problem solver. This position offers the opportunity to work with, learn from, and be mentored by senior engineering staff while executing the following roles/responsibilities:

  • Perform geotechnical field investigations and construction oversight at mining sites
  • Provide technical drafting and design engineering support for mining infrastructure including tailings storage facilities, dams, heap leach pads, ponds and impoundments, waste dumps, piping, roads, drainage and other mine infrastructure
  • Perform design engineering computations, including quantity calculations, foundation design, slope stability, settlement, etc. under the guidance of a senior engineer
  • Design or redesign complex layouts and drawings from general written or verbal specifications from the project team
  • Prepare civil/geotechnical design reports under the guidance of a senior engineer
  • Will travel to project sites in the US and Latin America

Skills / Qualifications

  • BS required, MS preferred in Civil, Geotechnical or Geological Engineering or related engineering degree
  • 2 to 7+ years of relevant engineering experience
  • EIT or PE required, depending upon candidate’s experience
  • Able to communicate in English and Spanish is a plus (orally and written)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • AutoCAD Civil 3D experience
  • QA field experience for earthworks and geosynthetic installation desired
  • Experience writing record of construction reports is a plus
  • Ability to follow instructions, organize and prioritize work to meet scheduled deadlines
  • Superior time management, planning and ability to interact with clients
  • Work well under a team environment
  • Ability and willingness to travel to project sites western US and Latin America, especially Mexico Approximately 15-30% overnight travel
  • Physical requirements may require lifting up to 40 pounds and traversing over rugged terrain
  • Must pass drug test, background check, and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy
