Job Description

Overview / Responsibilities

Amec Foster Wheeler is currently seeking a Project Accountant to join our team in Perryville, NJ. Assumes responsibility for delivery of all finance and accounting activity on an assigned project within the US, Central and South Americas Oil & Gas Operating unit. Depending on project need, this may include some responsibility for direct line management of staff (training, coaching, performance review and input into hiring).

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Depending on the specific project’s requirement, assume responsibility for all related revenue, disbursements and other project-related financial activity.
  • Take ownership of the project’s financial process and control environment ensuring that these are robust enough to facilitate the timely delivery of accurate financial information and transactions which comply with all requisite guidelines (GAAP, SEC and Sarbanes Oxley Act Requirements, other relevant international requirements and also internal company policy).
  • In conjunction with Director of Project and Operational Accounting, proactively drive measures to improve productivity, increase efficiencies, cut costs, take advantage of opportunities, and maintain a “Best Practice” standard. Design and implement new elements of the procedural and financial control environment where required.
  • Proactively liaise with the Director of Project and Operational Accounting and other departments both within the operating unit and the wider company to ensure an understanding of the bigger picture, that appropriate individual and team (where applicable) performance feedback is received and that activity is coordinated across departmental and geographic boundaries in as efficient a manner as possible.
  • Act as an alternate to the Director of Project and Operational Accounting
  • Works hours above and beyond standard as required to complete project based tasks.
  • Participation in certain client facing meetings.
  • Liaise with internal and external auditors
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Skills / Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration or accounting.
  • 7+ years of appropriate experience.
  • CPA or equivalent strongly preferred.
  • International business and Engineering and Construction industry experience strongly preferred.
  • Advanced excel skills required, experience with Oracle HFM, Penta, and/or JDE, experience with forecasting and planning.
  • Developed Leadership and Management Skills. Able to motivate and develop any assigned subordinate team members whilst delivering against all goals.
  • Self-starter. Able to understand new work assignments and work with minimal guidance to optimize own performance and that of any assigned project accounting team members.
  • Good Communications skills. Able to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization. Presents data effectively and persuasively.
  • Broad industry and company knowledge, abreast of current trends and practices in the fields of accounting and finance, in the Engineering and Construction Industry and also the domestic and international economic environment.
  • Exhibitor of sound and accurate judgment and business sense.
  • Well organized, with a high energy level, comfortable performing multifaceted projects in conjunction with normal activities.
  • Strong analytical and reasoning abilities, with superior numeric skills.
  • Results and profit-oriented but with the ability to balance other business considerations

Work Environment  

Depending on the specific project need this role may require working at field job sites or client offices in addition to the home office. It is expected to be largely office based (90%+)
