Job Description

Overview / Responsibilities

Amec Foster Wheeler is currently seeking Mid to Senior Level Archaeologists to support the FEMA Public Assistance Recovery Program on an on-call basis.

 

This is a fantastic experience to travel to new locations, meet new people, learn new things and help people recovery in their time of greatest need.

 

Will report to our Chantilly, VA office but work location will vary based on the project.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform archaeological monitoring and archaeological reconnaissance surveys, identify archaeological issues and needs in program activities as they relate to Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act
  • Communicate and coordinate with Lead Historic Preservation Specialists regarding identified archaeological issues
  • Coordinate with State agencies such as the State Historic Preservation Office and other interested parties regarding Section 106 consultation
  • Review and write archaeological reports and/or prepare archaeological site forms
  • Coordinate with involved parties to assist in making decisions about project alternatives and the resolution of adverse effects to historic resources
  • Work with other EHP staff in the drafting of necessary documents and partnership agreements
  • Assist with internal training on historic preservation issues and topics
  • Conduct the formulation, research, analysis, consultation, and documentation required by the MOAs and Environmental Assessments

Skills / Qualifications

  • Must have the professional standards outlined by the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Standards and Guidelines in the field of archaeology, as detailed on the National Park Service website
  • Master of Arts degree in archaeology, anthropology, or closely related field, such as geography, planning, urban studies, cultural resource management, or museum studies is required
  • 5+ years of related experience
  • Must have one year of dedicated professional experience with Section 106 compliance and review in a state historic preservation office or similar preservation agency
  • Must have knowledge of and experience working with the National Register of Historic Places, to include identification and evaluation of significant historic properties, specifically archaeological sites
  • Must have demonstrated ability to make determinations of eligibility and conduct assessment of effects under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act
  • Must have the ability to read and interpret designs and drawings for use in assessing effects to archaeological resources
  • Must be able and willing to travel to projects sites – 100% travel required
  • US citizenship required
  • Must pass FEMA background security check
