Job Description

Overview / Responsibilities

Wood's Chicago Office near O’Hare International Airport seeks to hire a graduate engineer in our Transportation/Infrastructure Design group.

 

The Transportation Sector delivers project solutions for ports, airports, roads, bridges, rail and transit across all of Wood's geographies in the US and across the Americas. Our services cover the transportation facility lifecycle and include feasibility and planning studies; environmental impact documentation; roadway, bridge and structure design; materials testing and QA/QC; construction administration, inspection and related services; utility engineering services; geotechnical engineering and a comprehensive array of support services

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for performing roadway or highway design tasks for projects of moderate to large size and complexity under the supervision and guidance of highly qualified senior transportation engineers
  • Technical assignments may include roadway and highway geometrics, drainage system design, traffic analysis and design, barrier warrant analyses, maintenance of traffic, municipal engineering, general civil/site development and other related tasks
  • Designs will be performed primarily with the use of MicroStation software with knowledge and ability to use GeoPak a plus
  • Additional assignments will include preparing specifications, completing quantity take-offs, and checking design computations
  • Must demonstrate the willingness and ability to work collaboratively and communicate as part of a diverse design team

Skills / Qualifications

  • BS Civil Engineering degree minimum requirement
  • 1 to 5 years of related experience
  • Licensed IL PE, or ability to become licensed within 4 years
  • Demonstrated ability to solve engineering problems
  • Strong computer skills with MicroStation, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word as a minimum
  • Experience with Illinois DOT and Illinois Tollway Design policies preferred
  • Strong oral and written communication skills are a plus
  • Demonstrated maturity in judgment and initiative
  • Must pass drug test, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy
