Wood is seeking an experienced Field Survey Technician (Instrument Technician) to join our Phoenix, Arizona team.


Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will perform surveying services in the field as a part of a two or more-person crew. Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Performing field work efforts for land surveying services of all types
  • Prepare field staking materials as necessary
  • Operate GPS and Robotic Total Station data collectors
  • Read and understand engineering and survey drawings, maps, exhibits and field layout documents
  • Maintain field equipment in a clean and secure manner
  • Load and unload field survey equipment and supplies to and from the survey truck
  • Perform pre-start vehicle checks to ensure operability maintenance and safety
  • May travel out of town short term throughout the US - Approximately 10% overnight travel

Skills / Qualifications

The applicant must have a minimum of 2 years of Land Surveying experience, 1 of which must have been as a Field Survey Instrument Operator. LSIT Certification is strongly desired. A combination of Land Survey education and experience totaling 2 years may be accepted as qualifications for this position. This position will require:

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • A good work ethic
  • Solid time management skills
  • Technical skill in the use of Trimble GPS and Robotic Total Stations
  • Thorough understanding and interpretation of construction design drawings
  • Out of town travel may be required
  • Small Unmanned Aerial System (sUAS) (Drone) pilot experience a plus
  • Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV) (Radio controlled boat) operation experience a plus
  • Ability and willingness to travel out of town short term throughout the US - Approximately 10% overnight travel
  • Must pass drug test, background check, physical and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy
