Wood is seeking an experienced Senior Field Survey Technician (Crew Chief) to join our Phoenix, Arizona team.


Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will perform surveying services in the field either alone or as the lead person on a two or more-person crew. Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Leading field work efforts for land surveying services of all types
  • Interacting with clients in the field or office
  • Operate GPS and Robotic Total Station data collectors
  • Uploading and downloading of GPS data collectors
  • Performance of field surveying calculations
  • Working closely with Survey Project Managers
  • May travel out of town short term throughout the US - Approximately 10% overnight travel

Skills / Qualifications

The applicant must have a minimum of 5 years of Land Surveying experience, 1 of which must have been as a Survey Crew Chief. A degree in Land Surveying, LSIT Certification or Registered Land Surveyor is strongly desired. A combination of education and experience totaling 5 years may be accepted as qualifications for this position. This position will require:

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • A good work ethic
  • Excellent organizing and time management skills
  • Technical skill in the use of Trimble GPS, Robotic Total Stations and Trimble Business Center Software desired
  • sUAS (Drone) pilot experience is highly desired
  • Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV) (Radio controlled boat) operation experience a plus
  • Experienced in performing a wide range of surveying services, including Topographic Surveys, ALTA Survey, Right of Way Surveys, establish high quality Horizontal and Vertical Control Networks, and perform Construction Staking layout
  • Proficient at mathematical calculations including boundary and construction staking
  • Thorough understanding and interpretation of survey plats, maps and construction design drawings
  • Strong supervisory skills
  • Ability and willingness to travel out of town short term throughout the US. Approximately 10% overnight travel
  • Must pass drug test, background check, physical and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy
