Job Description

Overview / Responsibilities

Amec Foster Wheeler is currently seeking a Process Engineer to join our team in Houston, TX.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Creates sketches and specifications following application of basic scientific/engineering principles and specific procedures
  • Performs engineering design evaluations, calculations and analysis
  • Prepares documentation, information, communications and engineering specifications and ensures conformance to all policies and procedures related to engineering functions, labor reporting and systems reporting
  • Prepares reports, correspondence, procedures, specifications and technical calculations
  • Prepares technical data and papers for sales personnel, customers and publications using good internal presentation and report writing skills
  • Consults with other departments on equipment designs, problems and questions
  • Technically reviews equipment and instrumentation selections
  • May travel occasionally to field sites to gather data or participate in checkouts, commissioning, startups, or trouble-shooting
  • May assist and/or check the work of drafters and designers
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Skills / Qualifications

  • BS in Chemical Engineering is required; Masters or PhD in Chemical Engineering is preferred
  • EIT (Engineer-In-Training) certification preferred
  • 4+ years of relevant experience in Process Engineering and Design
  • Awareness of trends and economic conditions affecting the technical field
  • Detailed knowledge of specific process and general knowledge of other engineering discipline procedures and applications
  • Knowledge of competitor capabilities
  • General understanding of internal economic factors affecting assignment areas, costs, margins, and profit impact of decisions
  • Basic understanding of the engineering requirements to calculate and describe phase behavior, thermodynamic phenomena, fluid flow, and basic unit operations as well as basic properties of materials of construction. Ability to translate this understanding into drawings and schematics
  • Demonstrated ability to independently create functional and cost effective designs/processes that meet complex specification requirements
  • Advanced computer skills with MS Office programs and familiarity with coding and use of process simulation software and ability to trouble-shoot simulations and other computer issues
  • Must be proficient in use of CAD and Database systems related to process functions
  • Demonstrates solid understanding of policies and procedures that apply to assignments
  • Regularly assigned ownership of conceptual design
  • Demonstrates strong internal presentation skills
  • Demonstrates good organizational and project planning skills
  • Shows evidence of ability to guide and mentor others including assisting in the training and development of less experienced engineers
  • Oral and written communication skills with good vocabulary, good grammar and the ability to independently compose routine written communications
  • Ability to prepare accurate, effective, complete and easily understood written communications and reports
  • Ability to work in a team environment and willingness to assume additional or new responsibilities readily
  • Works with project team to provide assistance to Customers, other Engineering Disciplines and Commercial Group regarding process related information
  • Listens to others, learns, and asks questions or seeks assistance when necessary
  • Ability to maintain regular attendance as per work schedule agreed with manager (may require working an adjusted work schedule based on project assigned and work overtime if warranted)
  • Willingness to comply with applicable laws and regulations, the Company’s Code of Business Conduct and other Company policies and procedures
  • Occasionally suggests product design and work process improvements
  • Prioritizes and plans own work activities, plans for additional resources
  • Completes assigned tasks on time or notifies supervisor with an alternate plan
  • Occasionally may serve as small project lead engineer
  • Assists in reviewing of work of other engineers
  • Able to perform routine process tasks and deliverables with minimal supervision

Physical Demands

  • While performing the duties of this job, is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear
  • Is occasionally required to stand, walk and stoop, kneel, or crouch
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus
  • May need to drive, walk, climb stairs or ladders, and wear personal protective equipment (hard hat, protective foot gear, eye protection, other site-specific equipment)
  • Travel to client’s office, plant or site may be required
