Overview / Responsibilities

Amec Foster Wheeler Environment & Infrastructure is currently seeking a Materials Laboratory Manager & Safety Officer.

 

We are seeking a qualified individual to take a leadership role in our materials and geotechnical laboratory in our Elko, Nevada office. Employee to be responsible for oversight of the AMRL / CCRL and ASSHTO lab certification processes, preparing for and closing out lab audits, maintaining internal quality control, ensuring timely execution of lab tests, and provide safety leadership to ensure the laboratory and all field activities are being performed in accordance with company and client safety protocols.

 

Key Responsibilities (Materials Laboratory Manager)

  • Must have ability to make quick decisions requiring sound judgment and experience
  • Must have sound knowledge of laboratory tests, field testing and inspection
  • Ability to interact with internal and external clients to achieve client service and repeat/new business
  • Management of laboratory personnel to balance work load and ensure timely execution of tests
  • Maintaining equipment calibrations and functionality
  • Maintaining QA procedures set by Amec Foster Wheeler and external clients
  • Perform tests when needed
  • Review test results / reports

Key Responsibilities (Safety Officer)

  • Maintain Office safety files and records
  • Maintain Office safety posters and information
  • Provide new employee safety orientations
  • Perform visitor safety orientations
  • Perform accident, incident, and near miss reporting
  • Perform periodic office, lab, and field safety inspections and audits
  • Lead monthly Office safety meetings
  • Liaison with corporate safety staff

Skills / Qualifications

  • Demonstrated progressively increasing responsibility and experience with construction-related laboratory operations
  • Ability and experience performing AMRL/CCRL laboratory test procedures
  • Ability and experience directing and managing lab staff
  • Current certification in first aid and CPR
  • Familiarity with implementation of site-specific HASPs (for units with field projects) Demonstrated general knowledge of hazard evaluation techniques for chemical and physical hazards commensurate with the complexity and level of hazards associated with each position, including ergonomic issues
  • Demonstrated knowledge of emergency preparedness techniques for fire safety, chemical exposure, emergency medical procedures, heat/cold stress prevention, and first aid
  • Experience setting up and managing remote laboratory facilities
  • Excellent organization skills and ability to multi-task
  • Teamwork attitude oriented
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety in the workplace
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Must pass drug test, physical, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy
