Overview / Responsibilities

Amec Foster Wheeler Environment & Infrastructure currently has an opportunity available for a Senior Environmental Chemist in our Portland, OR office. We are looking for a candidate with skills in environmental chemistry and ability to assess analytical data. The ideal candidate will have prior consulting experience, commercial environmental lab background, strong familiarity with environmental laboratory analytical protocols, good writing skills, and a willingness and ability to learn data software applications.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Primary responsibilities will be data validation (including performing, coordinating, and/or providing senior/technical review); interpretation of environmental chemistry data, data quality evaluation (DQE), data forensics, laboratory coordination, development of environmental sampling programs (including the selection of analytical methodology, evaluating laboratory proposals, and establishing QA/QC parameters), database support, and data entry. Candidate must be able to work with laboratories to ensure data meets client requirements and project data quality objectives. Additional responsibilities may include leading/supervising chemistry team, identifying and pursuing opportunities for business growth, and project management.

Skills / Qualifications

  • College degree required in chemistry or related science
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience including minimum 2 years in commercial environmental laboratories, or fewer years with advanced degree
  • Supervisory and project management experience
  • Thorough knowledge of USEPA and other standard reference methods.
  • Familiarity with Word, Access, Excel, ADR, and/or EQuIS software
  • Assisting proposal teams with selection of analytical methodology, evaluate laboratory proposals, and establish QA/QC parameters
  • Strong writing skills and experience with environmental forensics is preferred
  • Experience with wet chemistry, and operation and use of GC, GC/MS, IC, ICP-OES, ICP-MS and/or other laboratory instrumentation and associated data systems desired
  • Experience working with laboratories to ensure data meets client requirements and project data quality objectives
  • Experience in support of investigations and remedial action under CERCLA, RCRA, CWA, SDWA and other environmental programs is required
  • Knowledge of the principles and standards of scientific study, field investigation and sampling, experimentation, research, and documentation
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work effectively with team members as well as independently
  • The ideal candidate for this position is an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual with a strong desire to learn
  • Strong interpersonal and writing skills are critical
  • Must pass drug test, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy
