Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our San Diego, CA office.

 

This person will be a member of a team providing engineering and scientific consulting services to private industry and government clients. This position will support a wide variety of projects. The ideal candidate will have a background in HVAC, plumbing, boiler, chiller plant, controls, and building automation system design, good communication skills and ability to work with a group of experienced professionals.

 

This position is to provide mechanical engineering design projects for clients that own, manage and operate buildings and facilities in federal, state, and commercial sectors. The services are to support clients with construction design plans, specifications, cost estimates, basis of design, and technical reports for new construction, replacement, and renovation projects. Projects will be performed primarily for Department of Defense installations for administrative, operations, maintenance, unaccompanied housing, gymnasiums, and recreational facilities.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Work on technical assignments (both field and office) and perform mechanical design and related projects
  • Field assignments are local, national and international depending on technical capabilities - Overnight travel is estimated to be about 20%
  • Typical assignments will include building HVAC replacement, retrofit, and new build projects; interfacing with clients and contractors; preparing mechanical design drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and basis of design; project schedules; boiler and chiller plant upgrades; plumbing; and building automation systems
  • Designs are performed in accordance with applicable codes and standards; Must be able to review contractor submittals and shop drawings for compliance with specifications; review as-built drawings and operation manuals; and provide project engineering support to respond to contractor questions
  • Marketing and business development; will be expected to assist with large proposals to provide mechanical engineering services to government and commercial entities; client development, and other marketing related tasks will be included in applicants’ responsibilities

Skills / Qualifications

  • B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering
  • 5-15 years of related experience
  • Professional Engineer (PE - Mechanical) license in any US State
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Flexibility to work and travel outside normal business hours as required
  • Experience with performing full construction designs including plans, specifications, cost estimates, schedules, basis of design, technical reports, and providing engineering support
  • Must be computer proficient with working knowledge of MS Office programs and AutoCAD
  • Experience with client development, working on large proposals, and meeting sales goals
  • Ability to pass a National Agency Check for entry into Department of Defense installations
  • Strong commitment to company's Beyond Zero safety program; follow company safety standards, site safety standards and maintain safe workplace practices
  • Must pass drug test, background check, and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy
