Overview / Responsibilities

Wood currently has a Civil/Utility Engineer career opportunity with our Charlotte, NC office to support transportation, municipal, and industrial projects. The ideal candidate will be an energetic, self-motivated professional who has proven experience in civil engineering and public utilities, private utilities and utility location/designation.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support and help grow existing Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) business and manage/deliver projects in a team environment
  • Work with clients in developing scope of work related to utility designation, coordination, and location in support of their projects
  • Work may also include road and drainage design, earthwork, storm drain systems, sanitary sewer systems engineering, water systems, utility coordination, access roads, site permitting, and other related tasks
  • Will write technical reports using a clear and concise approach
  • May occasionally require work at remote sites around heavy equipment, traffic and environmental contamination

Skills / Qualifications

  • BS in Civil Engineering, related engineering field, or qualifying professional experience
  • North Carolina and/or South Carolina professional engineering license preferred
  • 8+ years of experience in design and construction including public utilities
  • Experience with Utility Engineering and Subsurface Utility Engineering related to public infrastructure and private industry
  • Well-rounded civil engineering related experience including public utilities (water, sewer), waste water, grading, drainage, and/or right-of-way alignments
  • Must possess excellent, clear and concise, verbal and written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to coordinate meetings, conduct effective client presentations and prepare written reports
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems and manage projects successfully
  • Ability and willingness to develop business from new and existing clients
  • Ability to establish effective internal and external working relationships
  • Effective relationship building to drive business development and create project opportunities
  • Must pass drug test, background check, fit for duty physical and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy
