Job Description

Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently seeking a Project Engineer to join our team in Irvine, CA.

Incumbent performs moderately complex technical tasks within a broad work scope, and/or plans, schedules, conducts and coordinates project work for large work scopes. Ability to perform work independently that may involve complex features, such as engineering design or data interpretation and evaluation. Tasks performed are non-routine and require professional judgment and experience. Provides technical supervision to subordinate staff; may have client management responsibilities; responsible for managing deliverables through development, review, and submittal. Approximately 40% of work is performed outside of the office with 60% of the work performed in office although long term field assignments may performed.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Performs work in a safety conscious manner to self and to coworkers and subcontractors
  • Works directly with senior-level personnel in interpreting the actual needs of individual clients
  • Determines required scope and level of effort of project work, including the degree of completeness and precision to which project elements should be addressed
  • Coordinates site activities with contractors, subcontractors, agency personnel and client representatives
  • Exercises independent professional judgment not subject to close review
  • Maintains a high level of communications skill, with emphasis on the preparation of clear and concise written reports
  • Demonstrates a high level of competence in directing and managing large single-disciplined projects and/or small to moderate sized multi-disciplined projects
  • Provides technical direction to and mentors subordinate staff
  • Responsible for following the Firm’s administrative and financial policies and procedures as well as the methods and procedures specific to his/her specific discipline.
  • Represents Wood and interacts in a professional manner with client and subcontractor representatives while on field assignments
  • Understands, applies and oversees safety requirements in the field
  • Work is performed in compliance with Wood quality management systems
  • Capable of providing an effective Quality Assurance / Quality Control role in his/her technical discipline
  • Effective at representing the firm in verbal presentations to clients
  • Meets with client representatives at the direction of more senior personnel, and conducts his/herself in a manner compatible with the firm’s professional standards and financial goals
  • May travel frequently to project sites, including sites remote from the office, as part of on-site team
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills / Qualifications

  • 5 to 8 years of related work experience required
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering from ABET accredited university required; Master’s Degree from ABET accredited university desirable
  • Must be registered as a Civil Engineer in the State of California
  • Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record
  • Must pass 40 Hour HAZWOPER Training and annual refresher course
  • Hands-on experience sampling environmental media (e.g., soil, soil vapor, vapor, groundwater, surface water)
  • Hands-on experience with remediation equipment operation, monitoring, and maintenance required, including experience with Trojan AOP process equipment desired
  • Experience with desktop and industry-specific software (e.g., MS Office, AutoCAD, and MS Project) desired
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Formal project management training desirable; certified as Wood PM if managing projects
  • Ability to communicate clearly with on-site contractors, supervisor or Project Manager regarding work assignments required

Physical Job Requirements

  • Ability to stoop, kneel, climb and lift up to 50 pounds
  • Must complete employment physical demonstrating ability to meet job requirements, including the ability to wear a respirator, as required
  • Completion of annual or bi-annual employment physical, as required

Work Environment

  • May require work at remote sites around construction equipment, drilling rigs, explosives and environmental contamination
  • Overtime and overnight stays may be required
  • Some fieldwork may require working with hazardous materials and in hazardous conditions
  • May be subject to periods of extreme heat and cold and other environmental conditions such as wind as humidity
  • Will be required to follow all applicable health and safety procedures associated with work environment
