Job Description

Overview / Responsibilities

Wood’s Dallas team is growing and we have opportunities for Construction Inspectors to perform construction inspections and materials testing for commercial, industrial, education, healthcare and transportation projects. We have opportunities for experienced inspectors with ICC, ACI, PCI, CWI, TxDOT and other certifications. We also have opportunities for motivated individuals without construction inspection or testing experience looking to start a career.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Under minimum supervision, perform field inspections and observations of construction activities to ensure compliance with project plans, approved shop/working drawings, project documents and specifications in accordance with established procedures
  • Read and interpret construction documents including, but not limited to, drawings, specifications, standards, codes and shopping drawings
  • Prepare and submit accurate, legible, comprehensive and complete inspection reports and/or testing records on a daily basis in accordance with established quality procedures
  • Perform analysis of data to verify accuracy before communication and submittal to the Supervisor
  • Document, track and communicate of construction non-conformance
  • Under minimum supervision and direction, interact with clients and other site personnel provide input on appropriate resolution of issues and findings
  • Direct and mentor less experienced inspectors in the performance of inspection and testing
  • Coordinate pre-dispatch activities with Project, Department, and/or Office Managers
  • Assist Chief Inspector on large, complex projects
  • Assist Project Manager in development of scope for construction quality inspection and testing services
  • Perform field testing and sampling of construction materials and completed work using standard methods established by AASHTO, ASTM, TxDOT or other agency with appropriate, properly calibrated testing equipment
  • Maintains assigned equipment and related calibration
  • Follows safety rules and practices and other safety requirements for all projects; Performs pre-task planning prior to executing work; Report any safety issues or concerns to management

Skills / Qualifications

Required

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 10 years of construction inspection experience or the equivalent in training and related experience
  • ACI Concrete Field Testing Grade I certification
  • At least two (2) of following certification:
    • NICET Level II or higher certification in Construction Materials Testing (Asphalt, Concrete and/or Soils)
    • ICC Residential Building Inspector certification
    • ICC Commercial Building Inspector certification
    • One or more ICC Special Inspector certification on Reinforced Concrete, Structural Masonry, Sprayed Fireproofing, and/or Pre-stressed/post-tensioned Concrete
    • TxDOT SB102, Level 1A and/or Level B certification
  • Valid Driver’s License required
  • Reliability – must be able to arrive at designated project sites prior to scheduled times
  • Ability to prepare reports and documentation
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Flexibility to work outside normal business hours as required
  • Must pass drug test, physical, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy

Preferred, but not Required

  • Associate degree in civil engineering technology or construction engineering technology
  • Basic knowledge of MS Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Certified in Radiation safety and Nuclear Density Gauge operation
  • It is preferred that experienced inspectors at this Level have and maintain one or more following certifications:
    • ICC certification in Structural Steel – Bolting and/or Structural Steel – Welding
    • American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Associate Welding Inspector (CAWI) and/or Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
    • American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) Level II certification in more than one of the following areas: Visual Testing (VT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Dye Penetrant Testing (PT), Radiographic Testing (RT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT).
    • PCI Level I or Level II

Physical Demands

  • Physical examination required to obtain medical clearance to work
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds
  • Clean driving record and capable of being insured for driving company vehicles
  • Able to work in variable outside conditions, including extreme heat or cold
