Job Description

Overview / Responsibilities

Amec Foster Wheeler is currently seeking an Engineer or Engineering Technician to provide specialized construction inspection service and inspector team oversight. The ideal candidate is punctual, self-motivated, self-disciplined, and able to work independently. Quality assurance leader and communicator with experience directing small teams as well as proven technical writing skills. Environmental quality assurance, roadway materials testing, and bridge construction inspection experience required.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform monthly Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) Environment Quality Assurance inspection of various TDOT Regions 1 and 2 construction projects
  • Read and correlate water quality permits and construction plans
  • Prepare TDOT Environmental Quality Assurance (QA) Inspections Manual compliant technical inspection reports
  • Review and document all construction work performed as well as perform all materials testing required to facilitate projects
  • Oversee multiple contractor crews and coordinate junior inspection staff
  • Measurement and data entry (into TDOT SiteManager) of contractor pay quantities

Skills / Qualifications


  • High school diploma or equivalent and at least 5 years’ experience required
  • Ability to apply analytical or scientific thinking to define and solve problems and be able to execute field and office tasks
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work effectively with team members as well as independently
  • Understand basic engineering principles with demonstrated problem-solving ability


  • Four-year degree in Environmental Science or Civil Engineering preferred
  • TDOT SiteManager proficiency

Physical Requirements

  • Travel and willingness to work outdoors in all seasons
  • Flexibility to work outside normal business hours
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. routinely
  • Valid driver’s license is required and periodically verified with MVR reports
  • Must pass drug test, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy
  • Hazardous waste site work requires physical exam to obtain medical clearance


  • Required Certifications:
    • Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC)
    • Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) Level 2 Design Principles for Erosion and Sediment Control
    • Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) Level 1 Fundamentals of Erosion Prevention and Sediment Control
  • Preferred Certifications:
    • ACI Special Inspector Certification preferred
    • OSHA 10 Hour Construction
    • OSHA 30 Hour Construction
    • OSHA 40 Hour HAZWOPER
    • TDOT Asphalt Roadway or NICET Equivalent
    • TDOT Asphalt Plant Technician
    • TDOT Concrete Plant Technician
    • TDOT Concrete Field Technician
    • TDOT SiteManager Inspector
    • TDOT Soils and Aggregates or NICET Equivalent
    • Troxler or equivalent nuclear density gauge transport
